Summary: "It's not exactly the Hilton," River mused, reclining on the bed. "But it'll do, I imagine."

Their room lacked anything resembling creature comforts. Severely.

"It's not exactly the Hilton," River mused, reclining on the bed. "But it'll do, I imagine."

"I did expect something a bit nicer than this," the Doctor rushed to assure her. He eyed the stained wallpaper with nervous distaste.

She laughed at his unease. "I've stayed in worse, dear; trust me. And this is the honeymoon suite, according to the clerk." Her hand strayed to the bedside table, and a large jar of mints. Casually unwrapping one of the sweets, she popped it into her mouth.

"Some honeymoon suite. It'd take a load of repair work before this even counted as a flophouse!" Frustrated, the Doctor banged his foot against the wall, swearing in pain at the resulting stubbed toes.

"Oh, stop grousing. We're here now; let's make the best of it."

"I'd like to know how the hell we're supposed to make the best of this room--oi!"

Hands had yanked at the Doctor's lapels, dragging him abruptly to the bed.

And directly atop his naughtily grinning wife.

"I'm sure we can figure something out," she whispered before bringing his mouth to hers.

With a peppermint kiss, the room suddenly didn't seem quite so bad.

This is really cute. I love your brevity, the fact you can really feel it's sense of dilapidation.

River always sees the glass half full, and I'm sure she's stayed in far worse places. The Doctor is somewhat spoiled by TARDIS life, but I think River can persuade him their room isn't as bad as all that, at least not when she's right there with him ;)

Thanks! <3 The Doctor may refer to himself as an optimist, but River's had such an insane life that she's probably got him beat all over the place where optimism's concerned. And she's got such powers of persuasion that I'm sure he'll forget how much the room sucks soon enough. ;D
