LAST OF THEIR KIND

Humans are pretty social, relatively speaking, and we’re not the only ones. From mice to lions, it’s pretty common for various species to need company, whether that’s a single friend or a whole family group. So what happens when there’s no one else left?

Maybe they’re the sole survivor of a town or a city being destroyed, or even a whole country or a whole planet. Maybe the elves are slowly traveling into the west, but this one isn’t ready to leave yet, or can’t. Maybe there’s probably more of their species somewhere, but they’re on the other side of the galaxy, much too far away to ever reach again.

Write a story about the last of something.

Most people will never have the opportunity to fly.

Airplanes exist in many modern settings, and some not so modern; some people might have gliders, or in more futuristic settings, maybe flying cars or some kind of sci-fi variant. But that’s not exactly flying under your own power! For that, you need wings, or a jetpack, or maybe just some kind of magic that lets you launch yourself into the sky and soar.

Can your characters fly? Do they want to? Are airplanes comfortably close for them, or would they prefer to fly on their own?

Write a story about flight.

For most of us, there’s a limit to how much we can change. You can change your hairstyle, get a whole new wardrobe, maybe some colored contacts, but short of extensive surgery, you’re still going to look at least a little bit like you. But that’s not the case for every character! Sometimes, through magic or some kind of futuristic science or because they’re not human in the first place, a character can change everything about themselves.
