Title: Oops, Sorry About That

Summary: Makoto gets some wonderful news and tries to share it with Asanuma as fast as she can, but somehow things get away from her.
Makoto had told Ami first of course, she was after all her best friend and would always be her best friend. And Ami was so excited to hear the great news, she hopped up and down and squeezed Makoto as tight as she could with her little arms. Ami called up the rest of their inner circle of friends and there was nothing Makoto could do to stop her; she told Usagi, Rei, and Minako all about the news, and even Rei, grumpy as she could be about this sort of thing, still gave a heartfelt congratulation to Makoto. Makoto accepted this and said she had to go, she had a certain someone who really needed to hear as soon as possible.
On the way back home however, she ran into Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna, who had just dropped off Hotaru for a date with Chibi-Usa. Makoto said hi and tried to move on, but the three of them cornered her and said they could tell that she was hiding something big. They threw out several guesses, including that Makoto was going to compete in the World Martial Arts Tournament, and somehow Setsuna tossed out the right guess at the end. Poor Makoto was so caught off guard by this that she couldn't hide the truth from her face, and so Haruka and Michiru hurried on over to tell Chibi-Usa and Hotaru, and both were exceptionally excited to hear this and what this news would mean for them.
Between these personal contacts and all the phone calls that followed, by the time Makoto got back home she was certain that everyone already knew. “Welcome home Makoto.” Ittou Asanuma said, drying the last of the clean dishes and putting them away. Well, except for him that is.
“I'm sorry Asanuma.” He tilted his head. “I'd meant to tell you first, but I was with Ami when I found out and I had to tell her, she's my best friend you know, and then she told all our friends, and then I ran into some more friends and they found out and now I'm sure the whole city's found out and now you're going to be the last to know.”
“Last to know what?” Asanuma said as he took Makoto's hand. “It's nothing bad, right?”
“Oh no, it's wonderful, the best news we're going to have in our lives.” Makoto loved the soft and gentle feeling of Asanuma's soft fingers on her rough hand, rough from all the battles she'd eagerly fought in to defend the Earth. “Congratulations Asanuma.”
“Congratulations?” Asanuma blinked. Makoto took his hand and put it on her stomach. “Oh.” He gulped. “Do you think we're ready for something as big as this?” He tried to imagine the impact this would have on their lives, but nothing he'd ever seen before had prepared him for this.”
“Well, Usagi and Mamoru did fine, and so are Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna. I think we've got a decent shot.” Makoto kissed him.
