[#004] Too Late (DC Animated Universe)
Theme Prompt: #004 – Last to Know
Title: Too Late
Fandom: DC Animated Universe
Rating/Warnings: PG (some language, references to violence and torture.)
Bonus: No
Word Count: 314
Summary: Dick considers the poor communication skills of the people in his life. Including himself.
When Dick hung up the phone, he felt sick. Three weeks. It had been three weeks, and he hadn’t even known anything was wrong. He’d just thought… well… It was obvious he hadn’t been thinking that much. He and Tim weren’t always in great contact, especially since his move to Bludhaven, and… It wasn’t an excuse. There was no excuse. He should have checked in. Someone should have called him.
He wasn’t honestly sure who he was more angry at, in the end. Was it himself for not thinking to check in, and assuming everything was fine? Or was it Bruce and Barbara for not even thinking to call him to let him know that Tim was missing--had been missing--for three weeks. He could have helped. He wasn’t so arrogant to assume that his presence would have made that much of a difference, but it might have. A day, maybe. Hell, even an hour, and that would have been one day or hour that Tim wasn’t being tortured by that psycho.
He didn’t even realize he had started packing until he looked down and saw that he had a handful of t-shirts in one hand, and his travel bag in the other. Well, he didn’t really have anything going on right now that couldn’t wait, and… He needed to get to Gotham. Tim might be back, but he had a long road ahead of him to even approach being okay again.
Maybe Dick hadn’t been able to help with the search and rescue, but that was done, and there was nothing he could do about it now. All he could do was move forward, and Tim needed him. He needed all of his family around him.
So. It looked like Dick was going back to Gotham.
