Title: He Almost Makes the Day Begin
Fandom: Original
Rating/Warnings: PG
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 744
Summary: Walter wakes up to find his boyfriend in an unusual position.

Unfortunately, it’s all too common a day when Walter wakes up to find himself alone.

When your partner is a cop, you find yourself suffering through the late-night wake-up calls, and early morning exits. Walter’s become accustomed to it, for the most part, because sometimes that’s all you can do. You suffer for the person you love and do the best you can. Besides, Walter’s incredibly more political position is not something Aaron happens to be all that fond of either.

They’re incredibly fond of each other – that’s the thing that matters.

What Walter is unaccustomed to, however, is making his way out into the living room, dressed and ready for the day, to find the boyfriend mentioned above passed out cold on the couch. He glances over his shoulder back to the bedroom, then back to Aaron’s sleeping form, before shrugging.

There’s likely a reason. Walter just needs to wake up his boyfriend to find out. He starts with freshly brewed coffee, followed by cracking a few eggs and frying some bacon, and by the time he hits the juicer, he sees a stray hand waving over the top of the couch as Aaron pushes himself up from sleep.

“Morning,” he grumbles softly. Walter smirks.

“Morning yourself. Were you too tired to make it to the bedroom last night?”

“Nope.” Aaron pushes himself up from the couch to make his way closer in search of coffee. “This was a strategic, intentional plan.”

Walter raises an eyebrow. “Can I ask why?”

“You can. You must wait until I have coffee for me to articulate it, though.”

“By all means. Caffeinate away.” Walter pauses to plate the breakfast, before tipping his head to the side. “Because you do know that I don’t mind if you come in late.”

“Nope. Not it.” Aaron pours himself a cup of coffee and takes a couple of long sips before leaning back against the counter. “You’re just really loud in the morning.”

Walter blinks. “I’m what?”

“Really loud. Like you try to be quiet, but I’m just super aware of where you are and what you’re doing, and today’s my day off. So I was trying to sleep in a little bit longer.”

“You might have had better luck in the guest bedroom.”

“But if I’m in the guest bedroom, I won’t get breakfast.”

Walter laughs. “How did you know I would make you breakfast?”

“Because … ” Aaron cuts himself off as he weighs that question in his still-asleep mind. It’s a good question, and theoretically, he should have an answer for it, but for the moment, he’s coming up blank. “Because you love me, and you’re a really nice boyfriend?”

Walter rolls his eyes before sliding the plate over to him with a kiss on the cheek. “You’re lucky you’re cute, and I felt like cooking.”

Aaron takes his plate with a pleased noise. “You always feel like cooking.”

“Do I?”

“You’ve cooked on almost every single date we’ve ever had. You literally cooked on our first date and told me that you loved to cook.”

Walter presses his lips together before taking his plate. “Okay, you may have a point. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to be treated every once in a while. Or to be treated like an expected food dispenser.”

“That’s fair,” Aaron nods, before picking up a piece of bacon. “Maybe I can handle dinner tonight?”

Walter straightens, a look of alarm crossing his face. “I appreciate the effort, but I’m not sure your cooking is the best idea. The last time you tried, you almost burnt my kitchen down.”

“What?” Aaron also looks alarmed. “God, no. I was thinking more me picking up dinner from your favorite spot and having it ready when you got home.”

“Oh.” Walter nods in agreement as he takes another sip of his coffee. “Yes. That sounds like a fantastic idea.”

“Good.” Aaron laughs. “Crisis averted.”

“I’m not sure it’s the end of the world worthy, but it certainly means much better things for my security deposit.” Walter shakes his head before finishing up his food and moving the dishes to the sink. Aaron gets up behind him and stops him before Walter can turn on the water.

“I’ll handle the dishes. You just have a good day at work.”

Walter nods, before turning to steal a quick kiss and heading out the door. “I’m looking forward to tonight.”

“Good,” Aaron grins. “See you later.”
