Summary: Gray has wanted one thing and one thing only in all the years since he was taken from his family.

Gray looked around at the large swathe of green countryside. In another lifetime he might have found it tranquil and beautiful, so very different from the sand dunes and coastal waters of the place he'd once called home, but not now. He'd grown to hate that dry, dusty air and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore, or the soft feeling of the sand underfoot. Even the lush greenness of this place, this planet Earth, was almost more than could stomach. It would suffice for now though, putting up with the primitive splendour. It was where he needed to be rather than where he wanted.

He watched over his charge, making sure that he complied. The hole was growing quite deep now, and John was invisible as he hunched over inside it to empty more earth out of it onto the grass nearby. For the first time in a long time, Gray felt good. Better than good. He was free which was, in itself, no small miracle. John had found him and taken him away from that place he cared not to think about any longer. It didn't affect him so much anymore. They'd already tortured him beyond breaking point and now he was like them, unable to feel anything beyond the worst kind of infliction. That wasn't a blessing so much as a statement of fact, but it had given him the strength to do what came next.

John walked over, sweating and out of breath as he clutched the shovel, having finally clambered out of the completed burial plot.

'You're lucky I didn't just blow you up,' Gray murmured. 'Thinking you could come all this way to try and escape me with him,' he said, pointing down at the crumpled corpse of his brother.

John clawed at his arm where the ninth generation detonator was fused to the skin. 'He deserved to know I didn't mean for it to happen this way.'

Gray smirked. 'What? That you thought you were finding me and rescuing me so that I could have that tearful family reunion I'd always dreamed about?' His blue eyes hardened. 'You were wrong.'

John leaned on the shovel, trying hard not to look at his former partner and lover lying dead on the grass. 'Where will you go when this is all done?'

Gray considered the man dispassionately. 'What does it matter to you? You'll have your freedom back, along with a small gratuity. That's all you really wanted.'

John did look down at the body this time. 'Maybe I changed my mind. He's your brother. Finding you was all he ever talked about.' That wasn't entirely true. That John had to prise the information from Jack wasn't important. He'd always had some chip on his shoulder that John was itching to uncover, thinking it would be something sexy like he'd once murdered three virgins after having taken that from them as well. John had always delighted in the more unpalatable things in life, enjoying blending them with the erotic. Sex, drugs alcohol and murder just fitted together so perfectly. Finding out about a lost lost sibling was boring by comparison. Life's a bitch and all that jazz, but it always haunted his partner's footsteps wherever they went.

All until that final day when it had gotten too much for him. Apparently digging up little kiddies graves in search of a powerful alien device that would make them both very rich was crossing some invisible line. Jack could whore and murder with that best of them, but his brother's abduction made him squeamish when it came to kids. John wished he'd been more sensitive to Jack's pressure points. They might still be together now if he had been. After this though, Jack would either love him forever or despise him.

Gray would change his mind when he saw Jack. That had been the hope. Even John couldn't comprehend the savageness of the hatred that coursed so deeply though his brother's veins. He wanted vengeance for all the years lost.

'You don't have to do this,' John told him. 'He'll forgive you.' Like he forgave me.

Gray scowled, casting a look down at the temporary corpse. Seeing his brother here now only made him hate him more. He was nothing like John with his tattered red coat and filthy boots. Javic - not Jack as he was calling himself now - was handsome and clean, excepting the bloodied patch on his shirt where Gray had knifed him through the heart.

He'd always been popular when they were children - the face of Boe, so some jokingly called him. Gray had always been running after him, trying to keep up with Javic and his friends. It infuriated Gray more than he could say. He'd never been handsome, and his body was covered in scars that would never heal. Even lying there in death he looked beautiful. Javic always had everything he wanted and Gray was left with nothing.

His eyes flicked towards John. There was a pleading look in his eyes, begging Gray not to do this. Such weakness. He wouldn't feel true satisfaction until his brother was dead. No, not dead. Dead was something Javic couldn't do, so he'd been informed. Death was a fleeting state before his body resurrected itself, whole and alive again. One more thing for Gray to despise him for. But even the living could be made to suffer worse things than death. Still, at least giving his brother one death had given him pleasure. One for the many thousands he'd wished for himself in all the years since they'd been parted.

'Shackle his hands and feet,' Gray commanded. He'd take no chances, watching the restraints applied.

Javic finally heaved and flailed back into life with a loud gasp. Gray felt a little surge of pleasure at his resurrection. Good. Now they could begin. His brother would start repaying the debt that was owed, one excruciating death at a time, for all of time.
