[#101] She Was (Not) A Princess (RWBY)
Theme Prompt: 101 – nobility
Title: She Was (Not) A Princess
Fandom: RWBY
Rating and Warnings: Gen, mentions/mild descriptions of abuse, general angst
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 439
Summary: Weiss has been torn from everything she truly cares about, but she can't help feeling like a spoiled little princess.
She was a princess, and Dust was her crown. It was everywhere in Schnee Manor. Crystals of power were inlaid in the walls and floors—not in Mantle, lighting the homes of the poor and needy. They lived in squalor, she lived in splendor. Oh, and what splendor. She could wear pure gold rings on each finger if she pleased. She could pick some Fire Dust from the wall sconces and wear it as a ruby around her neck. She could weave Ice Dust into her hair, little glowing diamonds of energy. Her whole world glistened with ice and snow and power.
She was a princess, and her father was her king. It was hardly difficult to imagine him with scepter in hand. No, not when he grabbed her by the wrist and hissed unkind words in her ear. Truths, he would call them, but she could see through the lies he told her and the rest of the world. She could see, crystal clear, how she was a princess locked in a tower. Not just a fairytale anymore. The man she once revered had transformed into a tyrant before her very eyes. It was chilling to remind herself he had always been that way. The only difference was that she had stood for him all those years. She refused to take the abuse any longer. As she watched the sky change from blue to pink to black, she came to a realization. It was a fragile thing, she feared she would break it if she spoke it too loudly. So she whispered, and though the words tasted bitter, they needed to be said or else fall out of her reach.
"I am not a princess, and this room is not my palace."
