[#109] Friends' Night (MDZS)
Theme Prompt: #018 - Friends' Night
Title: Friends' Night
Fandom: MDZS
Rating/Warnings: T / College party gone mildly awry.
Word Count: 1,000
Summary: Jiang Cheng ditches his brother's party. Nie Huaisang figures out too late that Jiang Cheng had the right idea.
“Da-ge will kill you both if you get me drunk,” Nie Huaisang announced. And then proceeded to empty an entire backpack of liquor onto the table.
“Jiejie will kill you if you're why we die of alcohol poisoning,” Jiang Cheng glared at the bottles.
Wei Ying slapped Jiang Cheng on the back. “Come on, Meimei! Live a little! It’s just a friends' night.”
“You’re too stupid to cover this up,” Jiang Cheng countered, scowling and rubbing his shoulder. “You always do the dumbest shit when you get drunk, Wei Ying.”
“That’s why I have you,” Wei Ying threw his arm around Jiang Cheng’s neck and laid a smacking kiss on his cheek. “What would I do without you?”
“Die young and leave a charcoal corpse,” Jiang Cheng shoved him off. “Or end up in jail.”
“See?” Wei Ying agreed. “You’re absolutely essential.”
Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes and dropped onto Wei Ying’s very messy bed. “Whatever. It’s your first semester at college so you’re going to do whatever you want anyway.”
“That’s the spirit!” Wei Ying turned to Nie Huaisang. “What else do you have for us?”
“What makes you think I have anything else?” The fan-fluttering Nie demanded with a pout. “Isn’t my Da-ge’s good Scotch enough?”
“Nope!” Wei Ying said, making the ‘p’ pop. “I know you’ve got something else on you. Give it.”
Nie Huaisang sighed, long-suffering, and pulled a foil wrapped package out from under his shirt. “Edibles. Only one per person, though, these are strong. The guy who makes them has it down to a science.”
Wei Wuxian crowed holding the package up to his nose. He grimaced. “These smell like skunk. Baked in chocolate. People eat this stuff?”
It was Nie Huaisang’s turn to roll his eyes. “Yes, Wei-xiong. People eat this stuff.”
“Well that’s just lovely,” Jiang Cheng grumbled. “I’m glad I don’t go here so I can't get thrown out when we get caught.”
“You don’t go here because you couldn’t get in, Meimei,” Wei Wuxian opened the foil packet and tried a small piece. He gagged and handed the package back to Nie Huaisang. “I, however, am an invaluable member of the class of - whenever I graduate. They need my genius!”
Jiang Cheng got up and quietly left the room. Wei Ying didn’t appear to notice but Nie Huaisang did. He expected Jiang Cheng to return, but he didn’t.
As more people arrived, Wei Ying seemed to forget about his brother. Wen Chao and Wei Ying were daring each other to chug the shitty beer Wen Chao had brought while Wen Ning and Nie Huaisang sipped the Scotch with appreciation. Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen showed up with some authentic baijiu and Mo Xuanyu, the only cool Jin, came with fancy liquers and no-bake truffles wrapped around ecstasy pills.
It was rapidly becoming a party Nie Huaisang didn’t want to be part of. Wen Ning agreed, eyes wide as Jin Zixun rolled a keg in, so they slunk out of the room and went on a walk through campus.
It was very pretty, in the Autumn sunset. But the farther away they got from Wei Ying’s room, the worst Nie Huaisang felt. Wei Ying had been unnecessarily cruel, to Jiang Cheng, and hadn’t even realized it. Not knowing what to do, he called his big brother. Nie Mingjue was staying near by until classes officially started. In theory he was taking the opportunity to visit Lan Qiren and renew their business acquaintance.
In reality, he was probably necking with Lan Xichen.
Which might make this an awkward time to call, Nie Huaisang realized, two seconds before his brother picked up.
“Are you okay, Huaisang?” Da-ge’s gruff voice was calm.
It calmed Huaisang, who hadn’t realized he was a bit drunker than intended. He looked at Wen Ning. Who was asleep. They were sitting on a park bench.
When had they stopped walking?
“Da-ge, I’m in a park near,” Nie Huaisang squinted. “A statue of a guy surfing on a sword. I don’t feel so good.” He took a deep breath. “Full disclosure, I was drinking.”
A scoff, for that. “No shit, Huaisang.”
“You don’t know nothing!”
“Your backpack clinked when you picked it up and the asshole you bought your edibles from called me, trying to blackmail me or he’d tell the whole world my little brother is a junkie.” Da-ge replied dryly.
Huaisang thought it was very nice of the park to have trash cans right next to the benches because he very much needed to throw up.
“Da-ge,” he complained, once he was done puking. He began to cry. And hiccup. “Da-ge, kill me later. Me and A-Ning left the party because it sucked. But we’re in the park and I don’t remember how we got here and everything is all swimmy. Also, I lost Jiang Cheng. Wei Ying said something really mean and he’s probably upset. I’m a terrible friend.”
Nie Mingjue sighed. “Xichen and I ran into Jiang Cheng at the campus coffee shop. He’s with us. We’ll be there soon, Didi. Just sit tight. Remind me to punish you when you’ll remember that you’re punished.”
“That sounds like a trap,” Nie Huaisang muttered suspiciously.
“Keep talking, Didi. Jiang Cheng says we’re almost there.”
So he rambled until a huge hand came from nowhere and plucked his phone out of his grasp.
“Man,” Jiang Cheng said, standing to one side. “You’re fucked up. What did you drink?”
“Upon reflection, this friends’ night sucked,” Nie Huaisang announced. “I only sipped a little of Da-ge’s Scotch.”
“I’m going to kill him when he’s sober,” Nie Mingjue growled. “If it’s what I’m thinking, that was a three-hundred and fifty dollar bottle.”
“Ouch,” Jiang Cheng winced.
“Next time,” Nie Huaisang flung himself at Jiang Cheng. “Next time I leave when you do.”
“Yeah,” Jiang Cheng agreed, smiling shyly at Nie Mingjue and Lan Xichen. “I think my night went better than yours.”
Nie Huaisang considered. “Disgusting.” He declared. Then passed out.
