[#122] WHEN THERE'S NOTHING (EXILE SAGA AND GALACTIC MILIEU)
Theme Prompt: #122 - Novelty
Title: When There's Nothing
Fandom: Exiles Saga and Galactic Milieu
Ratings / Warning: PG
Bonus: No
Word Count: 321
Summary: Elizabeth only sought novelty when everything was gone.
Elizabeth hadn't gone chasing for a lot of novelty in her life; the fact that she had stayed on Denali, her birth planet that existed in a permanent winter was proof enough. She could have easily moved to a warmer, more exciting planet when she was old enough, but she was happy to stay where she was.
Lawrence eventually caught her eye and her heart and he loved Denali too much to leave as well. Both of them teaching gifted children to use their mind powers responsibly provided some novelty; you didn't know what combination of mind powers the next child to teach would have. Although the families of those with powerful gifts would be strongly encouraged to depart for those more exciting planets, good old Denali lacked novelty for many in the Galactic Milieu, unless you liked skiing.
Then came the accident, waking nine months later to be told of Lawrence's death. Being in a younger body was an unwelcome novelty, she had been content before to see middle age approaching. Losing her powers was unwelcome, full stop.
So now she seeks out novelty deliberately, for it's the only avenue left as far as she can see. She'd head to Old Earth and go through the one-way time gate to the ancient past. Take a balloon and fly away. Anything could happen.
That will be enough novelty for her.
