Challenge 134: WASTELAND

While humans – and many other species – can adapt to a vast range of environments, some places are just rough. Maybe it’s a radioactive desert stretching on as far as the eye can see, or a blasted field of craters from some ancient battle. Maybe someone deliberately destroyed a once-welcoming stretch of fertile land, or a great city, or maybe it just fell into ruin over the centuries. Or maybe it’s just the twelve-hour stretch of nothing but corn fields that leaves you regretting ever starting this road trip. However literal it is, a wasteland can be a real challenge! How do your characters deal with it? Do they suffer in silence? Complain vehemently, or go to great lengths to go anywhere else? Or do they find some kind of beauty in it, no matter how awful it might seem? Write a story about a wasteland. BONUS GOAL: “I told you [Name] was a terrible vacation spot.” If your submission features this line, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!
