[#144] Optics (Transformers IDW 2005)

Theme Prompt: Invincible
Title: Optics
Fandom: Transformers IDW 2005
Rating/Warnings: Teen; graphic violence, attempted murder
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 888 words
Summary: Bait takes out a hit on a high-level target; her buddy insists on coming along with her.
Additional context: Bait and Gillikad are both OCs; Bait is a neutral assassin triple-changer and Gillikad is a [waves hands vaguely] unspecified organic alien who sort of looks like a cat I guess. Black Shadow is a canon character, and Phase Sixers are a canon concept, but all the "pov stuff" is made up, pretty much.

"This is stupid as fuck," Gillikad muttered, nudging Bait's gun arm.

"It's fine," Bait murmured, lining up the shot.

"You're not invincible," Gillikad continued. "He- he has no known weaknesses!"

"He has optics, doesn't he?" Bait muttered. "Gillikad, shut up, I'm trying to focus."

"Bait, you're going to get us both killed. Bait," Gillikad said, louder, "Bait, he's a phase sixer and I am organic, Bait, he's going to grab me and squish me like a water balloon."

"Mmmm....nah," Bait said.

"Bait!"

Bait took the shot. Sloppy, really; if Gillikad hadn't been freaking out right in her audials she would've waited for a better one. It was good enough, anyway. The bullet went straight through Black Shadow's optic.

And did not come out the other side.

...Frag, Gillikad might have been on to something with this one.

"Bait?"

"Shut up, we're running now," Bait said, scooping him up. "I got him square in the brain, I know he's got a brain in that head of his, but he's not falling and it didn't come out, we're getting out of blast radius."

"You're going to get us killed!" Gillikad yowled, and then Bait tossed him into her cockpit and transformed, leaving about as fast as she damn well could.

Behind her, Black Shadow roared in half-blinded fury.

"Does he know where we are?"

"I don't know, Gillikad, I don't think so," Bait said, keeping her vox about as low as possible. "It doesn't sound like it."

It really didn't sound like it. Bait had set up to take him out in the middle of a Decepticon camp, and it sounded as though the entirety of the Decepticon squad stationed there had decided to blame it on the local Autobot encampment and were making their fury known loudly and with about as many explosions as possible. Bait's current repaint was a nice sedate black and purple that blended in just fine with the genericons, and she was hanging out in Decepticon held territory.

Still. Better not to take any chances, really.

'Course, he was already half-blind...

"I'm gonna shoot his other eye out."

"Bait," Gillikad said, ears pricking up in alarm, "what the fuck."

Bait lashed her tail, a little marker of distraction she'd picked up from the Felids vorns ago. Gillikad always read it like she was ignoring him, which she was, so it was doing what she wanted. "I'm gonna pretend to be an Autobot. I never get to do that, it's fun."

"Bait, let me out."

"You were the one who wanted to come along," Bait pointed out. "You said you'd be my siiiiiide-kick. Come on, loosen up, we'll have some fun."

"We are playing chicken with an entire army and trying to kill a planet killer!"

"Higher stakes just gives you a better rush! Trust me," Bait said, taking off.

"We are going to fucking die," Gillikad said again, and curled up around Bait's joystick. "I'm going to have a heart attack and die. My hearts are popping one by one from the stress."

"Chill out and be quiet for a minute," Bait said, pulling up her scope and getting into a position. She was all the way away from where Black Shadow was, so this shot would be a bitch to line up, but... well. That'd just make it more fun when she landed it.

One shot to the side of the head to make him turn, optic-level. When she fired, Gillikad said something. Bait turned her audials off. She needed to focus.

Her mark turned. Didn't see her immediately, looked like. That was good; she'd have been in a world of hurt if he had made optic contact before she could blow his optics out. The full-powered blast from her long-range rifle didn't even scratch his paint. That invulnerable armor was no joke.

But he still had optics. Had to suck for him.

She shot twice, missed once, a slug bouncing harmless off the ridge under his eye. The other went in. Nearly missed, but punctured the very edge of the optical housing anyway. Glass sprayed, tiny and hard to see in the scope.

Bait turned her ears back on.

"- can't see that far, did it work?" Gillikad was just shy of shouting. "Bait, stop ignoring me! Please!"

"I blinded him. We're going to let the Autobots polish him off. They'd have more firepower than us."

"...You got him?"

"Yeah!" Bait cut her rotors, dropping below the roofline again as the Decepticon snipers finally recovered from their shock and started shooting in her direction. "If he's not dead by tomorrow night, I'll get a new color scheme and come back and polish him off then."

"You got him," Gillikad repeated.

"I fucking got him," Bait agreed.

"Destroyer of worlds Black Shadow. You got him."

"I'll send you the footage later, I even recorded it. Hell of a shot."

"...holy shit," Gillikad said, and started laughing. "Holy shit."

"Hell yeah," Bait agreed, fishing him out of her cockpit and returning to bipedal. "We fucking got him. He has no idea it was us, too, he looked completely lost."

"My god," Gillikad said, still laughing, near hysterical. "I can't believe it. I can't believe we did it."

"Believe it," Bait grinned, setting the felid down to walk beside her. "How's it feel to beat the invincible?"
