[#151] BUT YOU DANCED WITH ME (EXILES SAGA & GALACTIC MILIEU)
Theme Prompt: #151 - The Dance
Title: But You Danced With Me
Fandom: Exiles Saga & Galactic Milieu
Ratings / Warnings: PG
Bonus: No
Word Count: 316
Summary: Adrienne's thoughts when Unifex asked her for a dance at the ball.
Adrienne had been happily dancing with her cousin Marc at the Human Polity Inaugural Ball, when the Lylmik overlord Atoning Unifex had interrupted them both.
She had been shocked that the Lylmik and Marc knew each other, then even more so when the Lylmik asked her kindly to dance with him. He looked like someone's grandfather with his white hair and formal black clothes, even though in ancient societies he would have been regarded as some sort of demigod.
Adrienne couldn't say no in this situation, so she had smiled apologetically at Marc who then released her, his grey eyes looking bemused.
"I'll see you later, Adrienne," her handsome cousin said politely, before flicking a wary glance at Unifex and walking away.
In other words, Marc would be keen to know later on about her experience. She couldn't blame him; to human eyes Lylmik were usually half-seen aliens at best, wise and sometimes vague. Taking on human form merely to dance was unheard of, even at a important event such as this. Also - why her? She wasn't among the important of her metapsychic family.
But Unifex was a graceful dancer for all that he was much taller than her; in his arms she felt like the belle of the ball, like someone of note for once. She certainly would always remember this dance and how she felt.
Nearly everyone was staring at them without trying to make it look obvious. When she needed a rest for a few moments, Unifex promptly guided her to a chair and breezily fetched her some refreshments, people drawing back before him like the Red Sea parting.
Adrienne knew better than to ask him, 'What are you atoning for?' It was just one of those questions you didn't dare ask.
At times, she saw Marc by himself watching them both intently as if they were a puzzle he was determined to solve.
