Summary: Amanda approached them wearing an oversized LAPD sweatshirt and sleep shorts. “I wondered why you came out here.”

A shrill cry broke through the still night of the home. Steve woke up to C.J.’s cries, lifting the infant from his crib Steve carefully bundled him in a blanket slowly and quietly going to the door, walking the short distance to the beach.

Steve softly spoke to the child in his arms about the way the night sky was always full of shining stars. He became aware of the door closing just as he had got the boy settled back to sleep.

Amanda approached them wearing an oversized LAPD sweatshirt and sleep shorts. “I wondered why you came out here.” She said in hushed tone, caressing her son’s forehead. “It’s after midnight, I thought that C.J. might be hungry.”

Steve glanced at her for a moment. “He seemed to be restless rather than hungry, so I decided to come out here with him rather than waking everyone else. The gentle breeze coming in off the ocean seems to have settled him for the time being.”

“What did you do? I can never get him to go back to sleep and it’s frustrating because it’s something that I should be able to do.”

“Hey ‘Manda, do not blame yourself. It is not your faut that he doesn’t yet sleep through the night.”

Letting out a shaky sigh. “I want to believe you Steve but what happens when we go back inside, and he wakes up again?”

“I will get up with him. You need to sleep too.”
