#175 Late Arrival
Theme Prompt: Late Arrival
Title: Fashionably Late
Fandom: The Sentinel TV
Rating/Warnings: None
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 360
Summary: Blair is always late for everything and Jim is tired of it. What does Blair use as his excuse?
Jim was at Simon’s house for the poker game and Blair was no where to be found. They had been playing since 7:00.
Rafe said, “Hey, Jim, where is Hairboy? We’re all winning a few hands. He usually takes it all. Why am I complaining?” Everyone laughed around the table.
“I have no idea where he is. Just deal the cards,” Jim answered grumpily.
Simon went to answer the door and Blair was standing in the doorway, wearing a suit. Everyone at the table just watched to see what he was doing there in a suit.
“Hi, Simon. I’m sorry I’m late. But I’m fashionably late, so it’s not as bad.”
They all started laughing and Simon pounded on his back a little bit.
Jim looked at his watch and saw it was midnight. They had to work in the morning.
Jim said, “I think we’re out of time, Blair. It’s midnight. Time to let Simon get to bed.”
“Sorry, everyone. I had to help a student tonight. One of my tudor students. I’ll see you next week. Again, I’m sorry, man.”
Jim and Blair said goodbye to all their friends and walked out the door. Once inside the truck, Jim asked, “Why are you wearing a suit, really?”
“The young man that I tutor, graduated tonight and asked me to come as his guest. He has no family and I couldn’t say no.”
“It’s not like we wouldn’t understand, Chief. You could have called.”
“I did call and left a message on your cell phone. You didn’t get it?”
At the next red light, Jim looked at his phone. Sure enough, there was a message. “Sorry about that, Chief.”
“Did you win any pots tonight?”
“I won three. We were all glad you weren’t there because you win all the time.”
Blair laughed and said, “That’s what’s so fun about poker with you suckers.”
Both men laughed and laughed all the way home.
