Summary: Aaron had been valuable, now he was expendable. He won't go down easy, though.
Aaron Cross knew something had been wrong when he heard the sound of something approaching - fast and unauthorised - from the sky.
This was an isolated dwelling in the snowy wilderness, far from busy city life.
He didn't need his enhanced body and instincts to tell him to be on the alert in case danger was approaching.
Unfortunately, the other Outcome agent hadn't taken Aaron's repeated concern and warnings seriously enough and now he was dead, his dwelling now flaming pieces of wreckage on the snow.
No one could have survived. By a stroke of luck - tainted with horror now - Aaron had been outside when the strike landed.
Had the other agent realised that a promise had been broken to him in the moments before his death? That the ones who had enhanced him had decided he was expendable now. A change of plans. So sorry.
Even as Aaron runs to the woods (even though it contains the wolves that have been hunting him), he's thinking furiously.
If others like him have been marked for death, are they in the process of being killed right now? Or have some escaped, the knowledge of betrayal and broken promises running through their veins like ice right now.
The sound of something else now in the air, seeking his death too. A change of plans. So sorry.
But Aaron is not expendable, nor does he plan on dying today. The wolves after him might even be useful now, after all.
