Summary: Blair is home alone and sitting on the patio, as he wishes upon a star.
Blair Sandburg was a very happy man these days. After his diss fiasco, he finally found himself doing what he wanted to do all along. He was now a Consultant for Major Crimes, meaning he couldn’t work with just Jim anymore. No, he was working with everyone and doing a fabulous job. He sued Berkshire Publishing and won, and to top it off, he was able to get his Doctorate in Closed Societies. He was doing so well that Simon said he was happier with his team then he had ever been. So why was Blair sitting on the balcony, alone and blue when he could be asking Jim out. Blair knew that Jim dated guys, so that wasn’t a problem. Being best friends was the problem. And this best friend, wanted to be dating Jim Ellison.
Blair looked up in the sky and saw one star that seemed to be shining brighter than any of the other stars. I’m going to wish that Jim would notice me and maybe it’ll come true. I want him to sweep me off my feet.
Once he was done making the wish, he began to talk to himself as he walked into the loft, shutting the balcony doors as he walked in.
“You better be careful what you wish for, Sandburg. You want him to love me so badly. I know I already love him. He’s everything I wanted in a lover. Maybe even more. I don’t have to be careful if Jim feels the same way. But does he feel the same way. Maybe he doesn’t find me attractive.”
Blair stopped talking to himself and began picking up the loft before Jim would return from being in court the entire day. Jim always came home so grumpy after court.
“Maybe I should just come right out and ask him for a date. The worst he could do is say no. I should be praying instead of wishing on a star.”
Blair felt like he was 25 again, trying to make his life into what he wanted it to be. And right now that was being Jim Ellison’s lover. Yes, Blair was going to ask him out tonight and with the stars help, Jim might say yes.
Little did Blair know that Jim heard all the things that Blair said in the loft. Jim leaned his head back taking in deep breaths. Jim certainly didn’t want to ruin a good thing. They were best friends and should stay that way. Sex would cloud the friendship. Jim knew he wasn’t going to say anything when he walked in the door. He would bitch about having to testify so late in the day and hopefully, Blair wouldn’t bring anything up about dating.
Jim knew that he would like to be with Blair, but not now and maybe never… Jim got ready to enter the loft and opened the door with his key. Blair walked out of his room, carrying things for the kitchen that he had left in his room. ‘Busted. There are no food items to be in the bedrooms.’
“Hi, Jim. You look tired and hungry. Are you?” Blair asked.
“Yeah, I am. They didn’t put me on the stand until 4:30 and then at 4:45 the judge called it a day. I have to go back tomorrow morning and answer all the stupid questions they have for me. What’s for dinner? I’m starving.”
Jim took his gun off as he walked up the stairs. His gun safe was in his bedroom. When he came down the stairs, he could smell dinner. Blair had made Mexican Goulash.
“Thank you for making Mexican Goulash. I smelled it while you were heating it up. Is it ready?”
“Sit down at the table, I’m bringing it to you now.”
Jim sat down at the table and Blair brought the goulash to the table with two bowls.
Jim looked at Blair and saw he was filling both of them. “Chief, you didn’t eat yet?”
“I like eating dinner with you, Jim. I saw the most amazing star in the sky tonight. I mean there were tons of them, but one spoke to me. It was so bright and seemed larger than the others too. I even made a wish on it.”
Jim was shoveling food into his mouth as fast as he could. He stopped for a moment and asked, “What did you wish for?”
“It’s not important, Jim. It was a foolish dream, anyhow.”
“It’s either a dream, or it’s not a dream of yours. If it’s a dream, then I say go for it. Being careful isn’t always the way to go.” Jim wondered why he was saying that. If Blair asked him out, Jim didn’t know what to say.”
“You know what? You’re absolutely right, Jim. How would you like to go to Sullivan’s Steak House tomorrow night. I’m paying and everything. Just you and me and my wishes.” Blair sat back to wait for Jim’s reply.
“Honestly, Chief, I believe it would ruin our friendship if we go on a date. Let’s both think about this and talk it over tomorrow night. Think hard about it, Blair.”
“If you’re not sure, it’s probably a bad idea. Just ignore the question, please.”
“You don’t want to talk tomorrow after we both put a lot of thought into it?” Jim asked.
“Nah, it wouldn’t work, Jim.”
“I agree, Blair.”
“Let’s clean the dishes up and then I’m going to read till I get tired. It was a long day today.”
Blair sounded all right and even upbeat. Jim was glad of that.
Jim really looked at Blair and saw a man in love with him. You don’t even need to think about it. “Chief, I might have been wrong. I would like dinner tomorrow night. Thank you for asking.”
Blair began to feel happy, really happy for a change. And Blair knew it was because of the wish upon a star.
