[#224] IT'S FOR THE BEST. IS IT? (PHANTOM OF THE OPERA)
Theme Prompt: #224 – Guilt
Title: It's for the best. Is it?
Fandom: Phantom of the Opera
Rating / Warnings: PG-13 / None
Bonus: No
Word Count: 166
Summary: The Phantom let her and Raoul go. There's no need to feel guilty about leaving, surely?
Christine knew she shouldn't feel any guilt for having left the Phantom. Erik.
He had let her and Raoul go, hadn't he? They had left the underground lair and he would have fled the angry mob through a secret trapdoor or tunnel, never to be seen again. Christine knows that because if he had been caught, the news would have been all over the city.
Erik was gone and she would never see him again. There was no need to shed any more tears - but she knew if she woke in the middle of the night, tears would come again.
He had been her music teacher, encouraging Christine to be the star he knew she could be. But that was over too - she was engaged to Raoul now and the wife-to-be of a Vicomte avoided the stage and other places linked with scandal.
Perhaps she felt guilt over that dream lost too.
Christine looked down at her engagement ring and wondered why it felt so heavy.
