[#250] Out in a Flash (Harry Potter)
Theme Prompt: #250 - Quick Exit
Title: Out in a Flash
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Lavender Brown, Sirius Black, Blaise Zabini
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 534
Summary: Tattoo artist Lavender Brown wishes she wouldn't get unexpected visits in the middle of her work. Fortunately, she's got a system in place to get out in a flash.
A familiar noise resounded through the room, and Lavender closed her eyes, wishing this could have happened any other day. The alarm didn’t herald anything bad exactly, but it did mean she didn’t have much time.
Sirius twitched under her hands.
“Do not move, Sirius Black or so help me I will mess up your tattoo on purpose.”
A barking laugh was her only answer, and Lavender tugged at Sirius’s hair to get him to shut up. It only worked marginally in that he was only chuckling now, which didn’t elicit as much movement from him. The alarm would ring for about one minute before the sound changed to ring only in her head, so it left Lavender enough time to close her line and clean Sirius up a little.
Sirius wasn’t the one she was worried about, however. Being both a reckless Gryffindor (Lavender might be a Gryffindor as well, but she would never let herself be called reckless) and a prankster, he wouldn’t let himself be taken aback by something like this.
“Blaise, could you get me a clean cloth please?”
Lavender turned off her needle and put it in its place, extending her hand for Blaise to drop the fabric into. She didn’t waste time once she had it in hand, cleaning Sirius up before casting a protective charm to keep his tattoo stable and clean before she could continue it.
“Should I do anything about the noise?” Blaise asked behind her. Lavender was starting to be acquainted enough with him to hear the faint note of apprehension in his voice but didn’t let it stop her for now.
“No time to explain. Just grab the fireworks and follow me.”
She stood up and moved her wand in the familiar dance that would activate the ward scheme she’d prepared for this exact occasion, mumbling the spell as quickly as she could under her breath.
Distantly, she could hear Blaise and Sirius talking.
“Fireworks?” she could hear Blaise ask. “Where are they?”
“Catch,” Sirius was saying, and Lavender nearly lost control of her spell, because did the man not know those were explosive?
“Out, now!” Lavender ran to the back exit, tugging both Blaise and Sirius after her and ignoring Sirius’s groan of pain. The alarm in her head had switched again, which meant she had less than seconds before…
They were out into the cool air for only a moment, Lavender slamming the door closed with her back before a muffled explosion sound rang out, followed by a plume of green smoke sneaking from under the door.
She felt the shock where her back was pressed against the door, and her heart was beating far too fast for her health. When the noise subsided, Lavender looked down to see if the smoke had receded.
It had, but it had also left an unwelcome surprise behind.
“Merlin’s bollocks!” Lavender frowned, raising her formerly pink shoe to examine it. It was now stained green, though Lavender supposed she should count herself lucky that the green of the smoke had supplanted the pink rather than mixed with it. “I hate it when my aunt visits, she always has to make such a big entrance…”
