[#003] Just In Case (Doctor Who)
Theme Prompt: #003: Domestic Bliss
Title: 'Just In Case'
Fandom: Doctor Who
Rating/Warnings: G; no warnings
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 358
Summary: Amy stared into Rory's eyes quietly for a few minutes, biting her lip. At last, she spoke up.
Amy plunked down on the sofa, mug in hand. She was grinning.
"What're you so happy about," Rory wondered, flipping through the morning paper.
"Why shouldn't I be happy?" She took a sip. "Got my coffee, got my Rory..." She planted a mocha-scented kiss on his cheek. "Life is good." She snuggled in close, leaning her head on his shoulder and letting out a contented sigh.
He turned another page, eyes roaming over the newsprint. "It is good, isn't it?"
Her response came out of the blue. "You're doing it again, aren't you." The words were phrased as a question, but not expressed as one.
Rory shifted uncomfortably. "Doing what," he asked as nonchalantly as he could--which wasn't very.
Amy set her mug down and plucked the newspaper away. "You are doing it again. Don't lie to me, Rory. I know you."
"I don't know what you're..." Rory gave up, sighing. "Yeah," he mumbled.
"Okay." Amy adjusted position so that she was facing him, folding the paper in her lap. "Why? The Doctor gave us this great house, the car of your dreams, and a good, safe life. It's not as interesting as the TARDIS, but it's still nice." She tilted her head, examining her husband's face. "Isn't it?"
"Of course it's nice," he agreed.
"Then why do you scan the paper every day, looking for weird stuff that the Doctor might be involved in?" Amy stroked his cheek, and he leaned into her touch. "Do you think he'll come back for us one day?"
He placed his hand over hers, tilting his head to kiss her palm. "How do we know he won't," he asked. "I know he left us here to keep us out of danger. But we know him better than that, Amy. He may not mean to, but he might come back eventually. He might need our help with something. What's the harm in knowing what we're dealing with if he does?"
Amy stared into Rory's eyes quietly for a few minutes, biting her lip. At last, she spoke up.
"Let me have a look," she said, rummaging through the paper. "Just in case."
