[#038] Hylia's Decision (The Legend of Zelda)
Theme Prompt: #038: Bloodline
Title: 'Hylia's Decision'
Fandom: The Legend of Zelda
Rating/Warnings: G; No warnings (aside from potential spoilers for multiple games in the series, along with the pre-Skyward Sword manga by Akira Himekawa)
Bonus: Yes (in a broad sense)
Word Count: 359
Summary: To sacrifice her divine nature and adopt the form of a mortal...it is not a task to be taken lightly.
Hylia takes a moment to ponder the wisdom of her decision. To sacrifice her divine nature and adopt the form of a mortal...it is not a task to be taken lightly. There is much to consider.
Many, many dark days lie in store for this land and its people, stretching far into the distant future. A great evil will reemerge, awakening time and time again, casting its bleak shadow over everything in its path.
That evil must--and can--be fought, but only at enormous risk. To counter it will require great courage...but she knows that that quality exists. She has seen its evidence in those she wishes to protect, along with the potential for unwavering loyalty. Whenever the need arises, she has faith that one will come and drive away the lurking darkness.
But he will only be able to do so much on his own. A hero who stands alone, no matter how pure of heart, no matter how steadfast, still has limitations.
Thus, her own resolve.
The choice that Hylia has made is daunting, as anyone in a similar position would find it. She cannot help but deliberate, trying to see the matter from every angle. A sacred duty has been placed in her hands; to fail to protect the sanctity of the Triforce is unthinkable. But the power it possesses is not for a deity to control. Though the artifact was created by her fellow goddesses, only mortals can tap into its abilities.
Can she not do more to protect it--along with her chosen people, and the world in which they dwell--if she is a human?
She knows that, once that step is taken, knowledge of her true identity will vanish. Every life she lives will take her further and further from her own nature. Whether that will lessen her abilities, even she cannot be certain.
But her decision is made. She will not turn away, will not change her mind. Instead, she will infuse her essence into a single bloodline that will last through the millennia to come.
She prays that she will not regret the devotion that guides her.
