[#45] Extravagant (Ace Attorney)
Theme Prompt: Spared No Expense
Title: Extravagant
Fandom: Ace Attorney
Rating/Warnings: None
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 628
Summary: "What good is a prosecutor's salary plus the residuals from album sales if you can't spend them on your boyfriend?" Or, money can't buy love, but Klavier just likes to spoil Apollo anyway.
He was used to living modestly. His foster parents had provided well enough for him, splurging only on birthdays and holidays, and as a college student and an adult he'd been determined to "make it on his own." His current salary was exactly what a defense attorney normally made, minus buying Trucy ice cream or noodles as a reward for a case well done.
Yet barely two months into dating Klavier Gavin, his closet was stuffed with designer clothes and he was becoming a regular at a particularly classy Italian restaurant Klavier was so fond of. The packs of ramen and the jar of peanut butter in his kitchen had done nothing but take up space.
"I think I have more silk pajamas to last me a month, Klavier," he said as his boyfriend dragged him to the back of the store. The last time he'd set foot in this fancy department store was when Clay and his dad had taken him shopping for a suit to wear for job interviews. For years, that red ensemble had been his only suit, and now he had five.
Probably going on six, if Klavier got any other ideas.
"Three pairs is not nearly enough," Klavier argued. "Especially for a man who's been wearing the same flannel rags for six winters, and boxer shorts and a t-shirt every summer." He winked. "Cute as they look on you." He selected a pair from the shelves in a deep burgundy, holding them up. "A bit long, but otherwise about your size..." Apollo blushed.
"You're enjoying this way too much."
"Of course I am! Surely you expected nothing else when we got together, schatzi," Klavier murmured, his breath way too close to Apollo's ear. "You deserve nice things. After going so long without..."
Apollo rolled his eyes.
"You're acting like I've spent the last seventeen years of my life as a Dickens orphan in rags eating cold gruel," he said. "What's wrong with living a life of moderation? I had everything I needed."
Klavier chuckled, draping the pajamas over his arm along with a paisley robe as he led Apollo to a dressing room.
"Maybe I just feel like spoiling you, then."
"You know I'd be with you even if you didn't." A star like Klavier had probably attracted a gold digger or two in his life, after all. "I'm with you because I want to be." I love you was still such an odd thing to say out loud, even if he did feel it. Klavier set the clothing down as they stood before the mirror, his arms wrapping around Apollo's shoulders from behind.
"I know that. And keep you in nice things because I want to," he said, kissing the tip of Apollo's ear. "What good is a prosecutor's salary plus the residuals from album sales if you can't spend them on your boyfriend?"
"Your mother, maybe?"
"Oh, I make sure to send her her fair share of gifts, too," Klavier said. "You and her are the only ones I have to spoil like this, mein Forehead. I can show my love in a million different ways, but this happens to be one of my favorites." Apollo couldn't help but smile, leaning into his boyfriend's embrace. Klavier was indeed creative when it came to expressing love, from accoustic ballads to soft kisses to pretending to like Apollo's attempts at cooking.
"I might feel better about it if you let me spoil you once in a while," he said, reaching up to squeeze Klavier's hand. "Just wait for this Christmas. I've got some ideas." Klavier grinned, kissing his ear again.
"You may be the one showered in nice things, but every day I feel like I've hit the jackpot to have someone as cute as you."
"I think we both did," Apollo murmured, turning in the embrace to kiss Klavier.
