Title: Won't Be Home

Summary: After the Proving, Aloy has somewhere she needs to go.
The stone cairn is where Teersa said it would be, outside the fence, just past the training dummies, in the shadow of the little house where they'd lived together.
Aloy wasn't sure what she'd feel, coming back here. Even counting the days she'd been unconscious, she'd only been gone from her home a week. Her house she corrected. Rost had been her home.
She has nothing to lay on his grave. There must be some Nora tradition for it, but she doesn't give a fuck about them. Aloy hadn't been raised Nora, she'd be raised here, with Rost, by Rost, and he'd never taught her that. She places an arrowhead on the monument of stones.
He'd taught her how to make them from scratch. Which shape was best, which metal worked well, how to make the flame or spark or make plating fly off machines for harvest. It's seems a fitting enough tribute.
Aloy sits by the grave until the sun fades from view and the sounds of night fill the darkness. Her pants are damp from the grass and her hands are stiff from the chill. She needs to find somewhere sheltered to sleep, but she can't bear to go into the cabin. She sets off back down the mountain, further into the Embrace.
She thinks she'll come back one day, when the wounds are not so fresh. But it still won't feel coming home.
