[#004] The Tower (Tales of Symphonia)
Theme Prompt: Last to Know
Title: The Tower
Fandom: Tales of Symphonia
Rating/Warnings: PG, spoilers up to the Tower of Salvation
Bonus: nope
Word Count: 231
Summary: the Tower: the 16th arcana. Danger; crisis; destruction.
(In other words: Lloyd, brief in-canon introspection about not knowing what Colette was doing.)
Had he been the last to know?
It had been hard to think about at the time. So much had happened at once, and they’d had to focus on getting Colette back before Lloyd could deal with everything else, and then the Renegades had happened, and--
Professor Sage knew. She wouldn’t look at Lloyd for a while. Kratos--
Kratos had known all along. It made Lloyd furious just to think his name, and he curled his hands into fists and tried to keep thinking. It sort of worked.
Genis and Sheena had been just as surprised as he was. But Colette had known. She’d known all along that she was going to die and she’d just gone ahead anyway, smiling like everything would be okay and it wasn’t.
And Lloyd should have known. He’d figured everything else out! He’d known she was lying about what becoming an angel was doing to her, and the letter she’d left for him-- he’d even said it sounded like a will! How had he not seen this?
He could even understand -- sort of -- why Colette hadn’t said anything. About knowing she was going to die. But it was stupid, too. They were her friends, they were there for her. To help her! If they’d known--
If he’d known--
Maybe they could have done something differently.
Instead Colette wasn’t much more than a puppet.
Damn it.

I'm glad to hear this worked so well for you; it was actually a bit rushed on my part. :x Thank you!
