[#046] looking beyond the void (MCU)

Theme Prompt: #046 - Horizons
Title: looking beyond the void
Fandom: MCU
Rating/Warnings: G
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 262
Summary: Thor and Loki reflect on the past, and look to the future. (Set vaguely post-thor: ragnarok).

Thor stood on the Statesman, looking out a wide window into the depths of space. He heard footsteps behind him, clearly trying to be quiet. It was a feeble attempt. Thor recognized the sound immediately.

“Our stories are past the horizon,” Thor said aloud. He knew the figure behind him would recognize it.

“Ah,” Loki said, finally walking forward to stand next to Thor. “Thinking of Father?”

The phrase was a favorite of Odin’s when Thor and Loki were children. They would sit out on one of the palace’s balconies as Odin told them stories of battles and curses and everything Thor had chased in his youth. He would always preface his tales by extending an arm, pointing out to the line separating sky and Asgard. “My sons, our stories are past the horizon.”

Now, Thor stared out, with Loki at his side. There was no horizon to see. Only dim stars and darkness. It did not inspire awe.

“Decades from now,” Loki began, “When you manage to find a woman willing to settle down with you and you have children of your own, you’ll do as he did. You’ll point to where the sky meets Earth, and you’ll tell Asgard’s stories.”

It was a pleasant thought. Thor smiled. “Thank you for saying decades and not centuries.”

Loki shook his head solemnly. “Those Midgardian women do like you, unfortunately for them.”

Thor decided, wherever they settled, it would need to be a picturesque place. One he could point out into the distance and his children would be in awe of its beauty.
