Word Count: 1,000 words
Summary: Dany believes her future can lie in only one direction.

Dany felt restless in her saddle as the khalasar moved ever forward on horseback and on foot. They were a river of brown snaking their way through the tall green grasses. It was strange to think that the Great Grass Sea could be parted by a river, yet that is what they were doing. If she closed her eyes she could hear every last sound the kahlasar made - the shifting of clothing, the whicker of horses, the clinking of bells in the braids of the blood riders. The one thing that was missing she realised was the sound of her brother, complaining at every opportunity. He had been the blood of the Dragon, but now he was no more. A prince who had desired nothing more than a golden crown, and Khal Drogo had given it to him by way of a pot of molten gold.

She turned her gaze sideways to stare at Jorah Mormont, who had been her brother's counsel, but also her trusted guide into the world of the Dothraki. 'You are freed from your service to my brother, Ser Jorah. There are no more Targaryens left to rule in the west.'

Jorah remained expressionless. 'There is still one.'

Dany snorted at his inference. 'Then why does it feel like I am turning my back on it?'

'Khal Drogo was made to promise your brother his army to take back the Seven Kingdoms. That vow has been been broken but you are the Khaleesi. Whatever claims your brother Viserys had are now yours. Khal Drogo's army is now yours. He would do anything for his queen that would no bring shame unto him.'

Dany rested a hand on her swollen belly, feeling her son inside her rock in the same rhythmic motion as the horse between her thighs. Her son, the Stallion who would mount the world. But what world would he mount if she stayed here and did nothing? She had never bothered with designs for power. She had never had the need to. Viserys was the rightful heir to the iron throne, but now that he was dead, that meant the throne was hers by right.

'You think I should take up my brother's claim?'

'I think that the Seven Kingdoms would be better served by a just and fair queen than by a fat, overspoiled whoremonger, or a nasty, selfish princeling.'

Dany startled in her saddle, turning to face Jorah and his honest declaration. It was one thing to imagine herself a queen at Kahl Drogo's side, greatest of all the Khals and Dothraki, but it was another entirely to imagine herself sat upon the Iron Throne, Dany shook her head. 'Khal Drogo could never be second to a queen.'

'Whoever said he has to be? Khaleesi, you are the last rightful heir to the throne. Your reign will be whatever you wish it to be.'

'I fear I shall need you to speak plainer, Ser Jorah. You suggest that I should head west to take what is mine by right, yet you let us continue east. Which is it to be?'

'East is the way for now, Khaleesi.'

Dany stared out at the eastward vista before her. The tall grass seas stretched for miles, undulating gently in the warm breeze, like a blood rider swaying in his saddle. She could picture the whole world as a horse and all the people and trees that lived upon it as nothing more than riders, moving in time with its motions lest they fall off and into the unknown. At the end of her eastward journey lay Vaes Dothrak and beyond that she knew not what.

'Ser Jorah, you said that in Vaes Dothrak no man may spill the blood of another.'

'That is true, Khaleesi.'

'And that the Dosh Kaleen have the gift of foresight. Would a Kahl truly give up his khalasar to another?'

'If Khal Drogo wishes to grow his khalasar, he must do it in the same way that Kahls have done for generations.'

'By killing another Kahl,' Dany replied.

Jorah nodded. 'It is their way. But do not forget that men in Westeros have shown that by murdering a king they too can usurp the power of the lands. At least a Kahl does so to protect the people of his khalasar. Robert Baratheon stole your father's throne only for himself. But to answer your question, the Dosh Kaleen will wish to cast their gaze upon you. The Stallion who would mount the world could unite all the kahlasars without a single drop of blood being shed. The prophecies they make could turn the tide of this world forever. With all the Dothraki united, you can then travel west to reclaim the honor of your house.'

Dany chewed her lip, feeling another kick inside her belly, as if her son were willing her forward in the same way she might kick the flank of her Silver, urging it onward. 'I don't know how to rule, Ser Jorah,' she confessed. 'Viserys...'

Her brother had attempted to teach her many things in their time in exile, but always to be subservient and never wake the dragon inside. She had known her place from birth. Viserys had been meant to rule, but he was too cruel, too impatient and too stupid in the end. The dragon had never truly been inside him, but Dany had both the dragon and the stallion, if only she knew how to wield them. She threw a worried glance back over her shoulder, watching as the home she had yearned for all her life continued to grow ever more distant. Was there any place she could truly call home, or was she to be a Dothraki nomad forever?

'Do not fear, Khaleesi,' Jorah assured her. 'Our stories are past the horizon. Thought we cannot see them, they are there, just as the sun disappears in the west shall once again rise in the east, so too does your fate.'

I loved the ending. That was a very powerful sentence!
