[#048] And All that You Know Rearranges (Original)
Theme Prompt: #048 – Too Much Information
Title: And All That You Know Rearranges
Fandom: Original
Rating/Warnings: PG-13
Bonus: Yes.
Word Count: 600
Summary: Aaron comes home to a surprise sight.
Aaron returns to his apartment after a long day, drained and ready to crash. As far as he’s concerned, all that awaits him is a long, lazy morning before his evening shift at the precinct. Hopefully, it’ll turn him into a functioning human being again.
His keys jingle as he shoves them into the door, followed by the sound of his roommate’s voice on the other side.
“Oh shit,” Metlars says. “He’s home.” The sound of footprints follow, with a sliding noise, and then a hard thump.
Then, a much more feminine voice coos and Aaron’s hand pauses on the doorknob. “Oh, my poor sea beast. You don’t take to water the way you used to, do you?”
“I don’t know what’s going on in there, but please tell me you both are clothed.” Aaron hopes his voice carries through the door. A few minutes later, there’s more footsteps, and the door is being wrenched open.
Behind it is a woman who looks excessively wet, with long dark hair plastered artfully against her body in a way that somehow avoids making her look like a drowned rat. Her gown consists of flowing linen that also seems incredibly damp, but somehow not see-through. Over her shoulder, Aaron can see puddles of water splashed all over his apartment, as well as Metlars, still working his way off the ground, wrapped in just a towel.
He glances between the two of them, weighing his options, before gesturing between them with a finger. “What is this?”
“Hello!” The woman begins brightly. “My name is Nimue.”
“Nimue. Like the Lady of the Lake?”
“Yes, you’ve heard of me! I wasn’t sure.”
He then turns back to Metlars. “Why is the Lady of the Lake in my apartment?”
Metlars flashes him an awkward smile, as he finally manages to slide to his feet. “We were taking a bath.” A pause. “Together.” Another pause. “We were taking a bath together.”
Too many images flicker through his mind of things he never wanted to think about, and he decides that it’s probably time he should take this conversation inside his apartment. Crossing his arms in front of his chest, he tries to weigh his options on how to respond.
“So you and the Lady of the Lake are … dating?”
“What’s dating?” Nimue asks curiously.
Metlars shrugs. “I’m not sure dating applies here. We … hang out. Sometimes. I mean, most of the time Nimue’s in the lake, and I’m out here, but when I was also in the lake – proverbially speaking – we saw each other a lot more.”
“So, this has been happening since you were a massive sea monster wandering the world alone?”
“Pretty much?”
“How did I not know this?”
“Well, you never asked?”
Aaron presses his lips together. “And the water, all over the house?”
Metlars gestures to his very wet girlfriend. “Kind of comes with the territory.”
“Fantastic.” Aaron slowly slides his shoes and socks off, attempting to stay out of the puddles, and starts to make his way around the living room. “Is my bedroom dry?”
“Yeah?”
“Great. Then I am going to go there, and I am going to go to sleep. And when I wake up, I want this to be bone dry and I swear to God if there’s any mold in my apartment, we’re going to have some words.”
“Deal.”
As he is reaching the door, Aaron hears Metlars voice over his shoulder again.
“So, does that mean she can keep coming over?”
Aaron shakes his head before moving into the bathroom and closing the door. “Goodnight, Metlars.”
