[#066] Keeps Raining All the Time (Marvel Cinematic Universe)

Theme Prompt: #066 - Gathering Clouds
Title: Keeps Raining All the Time
Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Rating/Warnings: PG
Bonus: Yes.
Word Count: 992
Summary: Tony and Pepper’s wedding is crashed by the worst villain of all – the weather.
Notes: Not Infinity War/Endgame compliant. Kind of Civil War complaint, but also not that either. Otherwise hell if I know where this exists in the timeline.

“Are those storm clouds?”

Bruce turns from his place in the waiting room to the window Tony indicated. Sure enough, storm clouds are starting to gather on the horizon, and Bruce swallows before glancing back to his friend.

“I’m not sure how to answer that.”

“It’s a simple question, Bruce. Are those storm clouds, yes or no?”

Bruce’s mouth works for a minute. Over Tony’s shoulder, Rhodey waves his arms and shakes his head, because confirming that storm clouds are gathering in the distance on the day of Pepper and Tony’s lovely outdoor wedding is not going to go anywhere good. Not necessarily for Tony. He would marry Pepper anywhere from their lavish fancy affair to a drive-through chapel in Vegas if he could get her to agree to it. All that matters is that they’re married.

Pepper, on the other hand, is going to be less than pleased.

Bruce eventually manages to get his mouth around the words: “They’re … vaguely storm shaped?” Almost as soon as he says it, Tony’s phone rings. All three men turn to where the smartphone is lighting up on the table, and Rhodey leans forward to check the caller ID.

“It’s Pepper.”

“Don’t answer it,” Tony responds quickly.

“But—” Bruce begins, and Tony cuts him off with a look.

“Do not answer that phone.”

The phone eventually stops ringing, and there’s a brief moment of silence before it immediately starts ringing again. Rhodey rechecks the display before reaching for the phone and handing it to his friend. “You know she’s just going to keep calling, man.”

Tony huffs, before taking the device out of his friend’s hand and quickly answering. “Hi, honey.”

“Tony –”

“Sorry. Bad luck for the groom to talk to the bride before the wedding.”

“What—”

He hangs up before she can get any further than that, and Rhodey’s eyes go wide. “Do you still want to get married?” he asks. “Because she’s probably going to want to kill you after that.”

Tony gives him an exasperated look. “What do you want me to do? I can’t control the weather.”

The sound of Rhodey’s ringtone fills the room soon after. They wait it out until it stops. Then Bruce’s phone follows suit. Then silence. A lot of silence. A long, extended period of silence, after which Tony lets out of a breath of relief.

“See? Everything’s going to be fine.”

Someone knocks at the door. “Uh, Tony?” Steve sounded very confused. “Pepper called me and said you weren’t answering your phone?”

“It’s fine.” Tony shakes his head. “Everything’s fine. No need to worry.”

“I’m putting her on speaker.”

Tony rolls his eyes before reaching forward and opening the door to the dressing room. He grabs Steve by the arm and pulling him into the room before Pepper’s voice is blasted to the entire hallway.

“Hi, honey. Again.”

“I can’t believe you hung up on me, Tony. This is serious.”

“What’s serious? Pepper, it’s just some clouds. Everything will be fine.” Almost immediately after Tony finishes the sentence, the sound of thunder rumbles from somewhere above them. His eyes lift to the ceiling. “Please tell me that was Thor arriving.”

“Thor’s been here for an hour,” Steve helpfully points out. “Peter’s trying to teach him some dances for the reception.”

“But he is here, though!” Pepper sounds almost relieved. “Maybe he can fix it.”

“Fix it? Fix what, the weather? Just because he’s the god of thunder doesn’t mean he can stop a storm just over our wedding.” Tony pauses, before lifting his eyes over to look at Bruce. “Can he do that?”

Bruce blinks in surprise. “Why are you looking at me?”

“You’re the one who just went on an epic space adventure with him.”

“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean we had sharing time about the full extent of his abilities as a god.”

“Tony,” Pepper’s voice means business. “I need you to go to Thor and make sure it doesn’t rain. We planned everything outside, and if it starts downpouring, everyone will be soaked.”

“Yes, sweetheart, but we also hired a very competent wedding planner who said there would be tents on hand just in case. Everything will be fine; we don’t need Thor showing off through the entire ceremony and reception. He’s our guest, remember?”

Pepper is silent on the other end of the phone for a long time before she exhales slowly. “You’re right. You’re right. Everything will be fine.”

“Right. Good. I love you.”

“Yeah, okay.” The call ends, and Tony reaches up to rub his eyes. He’s sure that everything will be fine, but this is Pepper’s wedding, more so than his, so he turns and places a hand on Steve’s shoulder.

“Do me a favor, Cap? Go track down the wedding planner and make sure that the tents are ready to go just in case.”

Steve nods, turning to head out the door again. Tony falls in step next to him, and he turns back to the other man in confusion. “You’re coming too?”

“No. I’m going to find our Asgardian friend and see if he really can control the weather.”

“But I thought you said –”

Down the hall, a door opens, and Natasha steps out of the room, dressed in her bridesmaid attire. She glances over at the two of them before raising an eyebrow. “Hi.”

“Where are you going?” Tony asks, even though he already knows the answer.

“To find Thor and see if he can change the weather.”

Tony gestures to Natasha as though to go see? Steve nods in understanding before turning to head in the opposite direction.

“I’ll go find the wedding planner.”

“Fantastic,” Tony turns to fall in step next to Natasha to head down the hall. “Alright, Red, you’re with me.”

Natasha smirks. “Great day, huh?”

“Oh yeah,” Tony nods with a heavy sigh. “If we survive to the ceremony, the happiest day of my life.”

Ha ha ha ha! I love the idea that a bunch of superheroes are helpless against a few rain clouds!
