[#008] Twirling Friends (Original)

Fandom: Original
Rating/Warnings: PG / Implied deaths

Word Count: 308
Summary: He has a chance to say goodbye.

Max watches his friends dance in the courtyard below.

The villa is something he remembers, but not; a place of happy memories that maybe doesn't exist, but he doesn't care. The girl that brought him there said that he should see his friends one more time, say goodbye, and he did. Now, he sits on the roof, watching Alicia dance with Eduardo, Marie dance with Angie, Sienna dance with the wind, twirling like there's no tomorrow.

He wishes that they all had futures, but it's enough to just be with them in this dreamlike place where nothing bad seems to happen and everybody is happy. He may grieve again when reality hits, but for the moment, nothing really matters.

"Don't you want to be with them?" The girl asks, the one who brought him there.

"Nah," Max tells her. There is a white butterfly perching on her dress; he realizes that there are butterflies all around in all colors - black and white ones, ones that are the crimson of her dress and the blue of the sky above. "It's enough to see them, one last time. To say goodbye, as you said."

She watches them too, and smiles. Her hair is pinned back in a ponytail, he notices. It's funny what he sees, and he wonders what he'll think of this afterwards.

"I guess there are many ways to say goodbye," she tells him. "Do you want me to stay?"

He thinks about it. She's not really needed, but it feels better to have someone witness this event. "Yes."

"Then I will," she tells him, and he nods. Together, they watch the dancers.

Gradually, his friends fade away, but it's not terrible. It feels right, to let them go.

Max smiles, and is at peace.
