[#042] Night Snow Falling (Pokémon XY)
Theme Prompt: #042, Winter nights
Title: Night Snow Falling
Fandom: Pokémon XY
Rating/Warnings: PG13/no warnings
Bonus: No
Word Count: 983
Summary: The snow begins to fall in Lumiose.
"Ah--...!"
The threat of snow had loomed over Lumiose City for most of the day, the heavy clouds and the drop in temperature encouraging people within the city to wrap up warm and take care of their business quickly, so that they might make it home before the worst of the weather struck. The morning weather report had told of cold temperatures that would only fall as the day progressed, with warnings of snowfall given. That warning lay as a possibility through the day and beyond the sun setting, the snow itself only beginning to drift down towards the city once night had fallen.
Having made his way from the Sycamore Research Laboratory with his coat pulled up around him, Augustine had reached Lysandre's Lumiose apartment - standing on its balcony, looking out towards the city - before the snow began to fall. After standing there staring at the sky for quite some time, he then turned back to open the balcony door, looking into the room with excitement etched onto his face.
"Lysandre, it's started to snow--!"
Placing a bookmark into the book he was reading, Lysandre glanced up on hearing Augustine's voice. "Oh? I believe the weather reports did predict that we might get some today."
"It's always exciting, isn't it? I know it can get annoying when you're trying to travel, but... there's always part of me hoping that it'll settle. We don't seem to get it that often, so I'd be happy if this was one of those times...! Snow falling during the night, waking up to the city transformed..."
"It would take quite some snowfall for that to happen. Did they predict that we'd get that much?"
"Hush. I can dream, can't I? This precise moment, right now, is the time that I can dream of that happening." Augustine turned back to look towards the cityscape. "It might only be falling gently for now, but the potential..."
"As much as I appreciate the unfettered potential of the present moment, I can't help but feel aware, too, of the knowledge that you standing there with the door open is letting the cold air in. Please appreciate the capricious nature of weather patterns for as long as you like, but I would appreciate if you chose to do so either on the balcony or from within the room. I'll leave that choice up to you."
"And you wouldn't like to join me out here?"
Putting his book to one side with a fond sigh, Lysandre got up from his chair and stepped over to the balcony door. Also failing to commit to either state, he stood in the doorway, looking out towards the view that had Augustine so captivated. Indeed, the snow was falling; too soon to say whether it would stick or not, but enough to make one think that it might.
"I thought you'd had your fill of snow during our Sinnoh trip. I'm sure Snowpoint saw more of it in our visit alone than Lumiose has seen for the past century..."
"And if it was just about the snow, then there are certainly places even within Kalos that see more of it than we would normally do here... but that's the whole point, that this is Lumiose in the snow. Or it could be, at least. We'll have to wait and see."
"Indeed, that would be beautiful." Lysandre brought his hand up to cup Augustine's cheek. "However, you're cold. It's cold out here. Come back inside."
Augustine leant into Lysandre's touch before relenting, accepting the door held open for him and then closing it behind him as he stepped back into the room. He waited at the balcony door for a moment longer as Lysandre walked back over to his chair, a thoughtful look on his face.
"Can I use your kitchen?"
"If you like." A question like that wasn't an unusual occurrence. Lysandre went back to his book, half aware of the sounds of kitchen drawers and cupboards opening and closing as he did so.
Some time passed before Lysandre glanced up, aware that Augustine was - presumably - still in the kitchen. He hadn't asked what it was precisely that he'd wanted to use the kitchen for, but Lysandre felt suddenly very aware of the rich scent of spices drifting through. Several moments later, Augustine emerged, two glasses of wine in hand.
"I thought I'd mull some wine. Since the season demanded it."
"I see." Lysandre's mind quickly ran through the inventory that he kept at this apartment. "Which... wine did you use?"
"Don't worry about that."
"I might worry about it, depending on which one you used." (Rather than respond, Augustine instead placed the glasses on the side table next to Lysandre's chair before then taking his place on Lysandre's lap, draped lengthways across the chair's arms.) "... And I don't think that this chair was designed for two people."
"Then, that's their problem, isn't it? Or yours, for insisting on buying chairs like this, sitting off on your own..." Augustine reached over to retrieve one glass of the mulled wine. "What else am I supposed to do?"
Lysandre took his own glass, bringing it to his lips. "What, indeed?... Oh, this is quite agreeable."
"Glad you like it. I just went with what you had in there, but I think it'll do." Augustine leant his head down against Lysandre's shoulder. "I thought it might put you in mind of the chalet we shared. The atmosphere might be somewhat different, but if we turn the lights down and the heating up..."
"All this, simply from the first falling snow? It might not even settle."
"Perhaps not." (He then pressed a kiss to Lysandre's neck.) "So I think we should take advantage while we still have the chance. ...Don't you?"
Placing his book down once more, Lysandre brought that hand to wrap around Augustine's shoulders. "... I'm open to being convinced."
