Title: I’m Gonna Lure You into the Dark

Summary: It’s never a good sign when a Mikaelson shows up at your door in the middle of the night.
A knock sounds on the door, and when it opens, Freya Mikaelson is standing on the other side. She’s dressed in her usual clubwear, indicating that a trip to the Treme coven’s front door is not what she had on her roster for the evening, but she is here. This means either something is very wrong or someone is in trouble.
Vincent isn’t sure that he wants to know which is the answer.
“What’s wrong?”
“We have a problem.”
Vincent takes a deep breath before stepping to the side and letting her in. Once the door is closed, he turns back to her, arms crossed in front of his chest. “See, we’re not supposed to have those words anymore. Your siblings left, and with them came a reign of peace, remember?”
“I’m well aware.” It’s been three years since her siblings took their respective pieces of the hollow and fled to the furthest corners of the Earth they could find. Klaus and Elijah even went so far as to leave the continent. Regardless, the only person who bears the name Mikaelson in New Orleans at the moment is Freya – at least until Hope comes home for summer break. “But that doesn’t mean other people’s problems can’t come to roost.”
Vincent sighs before moving to perch on the end of the couch across from her. “Which faction?”
“The wolves.” Freya runs a hand through her hair. “Hayley came to me a few weeks ago with a wolf from another pack that needed hiding from an abusive alpha. I put a cloaking spell on her but now said alpha has come to town and is ready to paint a swath of red through the Quarter until he gets his wolf back.”
Vincent knows that this isn’t going to happen. When the Bayou wolves have given their word to protect someone, they do, with violence if necessary. And Vincent is not a fan of violent supernaturals coming into his city thinking they can use pain and blood to get what they want. But they needed to play this carefully to not start a war with any of the competing packs.
“So what do you propose we do?”
“Hayley thinks it should stay between the wolves. Battles between alphas are a matter of contesting wills, after all. I would agree with her, but I’m worried about the collateral damage.”
“Aka anyone who might happen to get in their way while they’re in the process of doing this.”
“Can we have Hayley make the first move?” Vincent frowns. “I’m honestly not sure how pack politics work, in the grand scheme of things.”
“They’re fairly simple. The one who flinches first loses.” Freya shrugs. “Maybe there’s a way we can take this out of town. If Hayley’s going to challenge him truly, perhaps it’s better to be on his turf.”
Vincent nods in agreement. The more they can keep it out of the Quarter, the better. “And if we can’t do that?”
“Then we do this the Mikaelson way.”
“We don’t have any pikes to put heads on, Freya.”
She smirks before shaking her head. “Vengeance is an art, Vincent. We’ve updated our methods since the sixteenth century.”
“Then what did you have in mind?”
“We take his pack.” Freya smiles. “Anyone who is sick of his rule can come to be part of the bayou instead. According to our rescue, plenty are sick of him, but no one is strong enough to challenge him.”
Vincent nods. “Enter the hybrid. The pack gets some fresh blood, and Hayley establishes herself a little more as a player.”
“Win-win,” she nods. “So. Should I keep you posted?”
Vincent nods in agreement. He knew that the peace would have to be maintained somehow. The witch hopes that violent episodes like this are few and far between. He nods in agreement before getting up to walk her to the door.
“Let me know if you need me to throw more weight around.”
Freya gives a salute in return before turning and heading off to put her plan into action, for better or for worse.
