[#099 | Roughing It] Challenge Post
Challenge 099: ROUGHING IT |
Most characters are accustomed to a certain level of comfort, however that’s defined in their particular setting. Characters from a modern setting may be used to air conditioning, internet, electricity, and/or indoor plumbing, while characters from a historical or fantasy setting might consider castles or villages with intact buildings, food, and fireplaces particularly comfortable. Characters from a sci-fi or future setting might expect artificial intelligence in their computers and faster-than-light travel. But what happens when they’re taken out of their comfort zone, whatever that may be, and have to “rough it” – a family camping trip, a journey through strange country, stranded on an uninhabited planet or island? Do they thrive? Discover new skills and new things about themselves? Or do they decide that roughing it really isn’t for them? Write a story about roughing it. If your story includes this line, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting! |
Challenge ends Monday, June 28 at 9:00PM EST. • Post submissions as new entries using the template in the profile • Tag this week's entries as: [#] submission, 099 – roughing it • If you have questions about this challenge, please ask them here |

So when you view the community homepage here, you should see something like this at the top of your screen:
Yours will look a little different, but the Post button will be in the same place. If you click on that, it will take you to a page where you can post directly to the community:
Make sure that underneath your username, Post To: is followed by "fandomweekly"; otherwise you'll end up just posting to your own journal. You'll need to fill in the title and posting template yourself. The posting template can be found here on the FandomWeekly profile (screencap below). You'll have to scroll down slightly to get to it. The template is in HTML format, and the screencap above uses the HTML editor; if you haven't used much HTML, it is very straightforward but you may have to slightly edit your fic formatting to make sure bolding, italics, and cuts show up correctly. There's a helpful guide to Dreamwidth HTML here; feel free to PM me if you have questions.
Once you've either typed or copy-pasted your fic into the posting page, scroll down to the bottom and you'll see the tag section, some general tagging/comment options, and a button to preview your post before actually posting it. I recommend using this, since it'll catch any weird HTML formatting before actually posting to the community. You won't be able to create new tags for this community; #submission (hashtag included) and the challenge-specific tag have to be put on the tag list by a moderator (that's me!). They should auto-fill as you type them in. Comments, age restrictions, and screening should be left as Journal Default. Once everything looks good, hit the Post button at the bottom and your fic will show up on the community page!
Hope this was helpful! Please feel free to reply here or PM me if you have any further questions.
