[#104] Cosy Little Hotel Room (FAKE)
Theme Prompt: #104 – Only One Room
Title: Cosy Little Hotel Room
Fandom: FAKE
Rating/Warnings: PG.
Bonus: Yes.
Word Count: 1000
Summary: Hit by bad weather on their way home from a trip, Dee and Ryo need to find somewhere to stay.
Two guys trying to get a shared room in a hotel or guest house wasn’t always as straightforward as it should be. Dee and Ryo had already been turned away from one place on this trip, told there were no vacancies even though Dee had called ahead to reserve a room. This time, no advance reservations had been made because stopping in this small town hadn’t been planned; it was a necessity.
The weather had turned suddenly, heavy rain drastically reducing visibility while gusting winds tugged at their car. Dee’s arms were throbbing from trying to keep them from being blown into the ditch, a fate that had already befallen at least two cars they’d passed, but they’d made it to something resembling civilisation more or less in one piece, although they’d lost a windshield wiper when they’d narrowly avoided having a tree fall on them. Only Ryo’s shouted warning and Dee’s fast reflexes had prevented disaster.
Now they left their car in the forecourt of what appeared to be the town’s only hotel, grabbed their bags from the trunk, and battled their way through the driving rain and howling gale, almost falling through the door into the lobby. They were already drenched.
Staggering to the desk, Dee dropped his bag on the floor at his feet and pushed wet hair out of his face.
“Really hopin’ the sign out front isn’t lyin’ and ya have vacancies,” he told the woman behind the desk. “’Cause I really don’t wanna go back out in that.”
“Are the two of you together?” the woman asked.
Great. More problems?
“Yeah,” Dee started.
“It’s just, we only have the one room left, so you’d have to share and… well, it only has one bed in it, although it is a double.” The woman sounded so apologetic it was all Dee could do not to burst out laughing. A room with a double bed! Things were looking up.
Still, perhaps best not to seem too thrilled; this was a rather conservative part of the country.
“Ma’am, if it came with towels and enough space to lie down, right now we’d take the broom closet and be thankful. Weather like this, sleepin’ in the car isn’t an option. Who knows what might fall on it? My buddy and me, we’re cops back home; won’t be the first time we’ve had to share. The NYPD doesn’t like to spend more than they have to on accommodations when we gotta travel or do undercover work.”
The woman, presumably either the owner or the manager of the hotel, relaxed. “Well, as long as neither of you minds having to share.” She opened the hotel register and slid it towards Dee. “If you’d both sign in?” Turning away, she reached for the solitary key left on the row of hooks behind the desk. “Normally we’re not so busy, but the storm…” She sighed as she turned back. “Two families had to be rescued outside of town when they went off the road. We haven’t had a storm this bad in years.”
“I can believe that,” Ryo said, signing in after Dee. “We barely avoided having a tree fall on us.”
“Oh my! You were lucky to get here in one piece!”
“Yeah, good thing the police academy teaches defensive drivin’. Anywhere around here we can get a bite to eat?”
“We have a small dining room right here in the hotel. The menu isn’t fancy, but it’s good food. Why don’t I show you both up to your room and you can get into dry clothes. You both look soaked to the skin.”
“Thank you.” Ryo smiled at her. “That would be great. I just hope the storm blows itself out overnight. We’re miles from where we’re supposed to be.”
“Where are you boys bound?” the woman asked as she led them up the stairs.
“Home to New York. We’ve been on a white-water kayaking trip.”
“Supposed to be back at work in a few days though,” Dee added. “If this storm doesn’t let up…”
“We’ll be fine, Dee. We’ve got a roof over our heads, and we can call the Chief in the morning if the landlines aren’t down, let him know what’s happening in case we get held up.”
“Well, here we go then. Again, I’m sorry the accommodations will be a bit cramped for you boys. I can see if I can find a spare mattress…”
“No, don’t worry about it. We’ll be fine, we’re just grateful for somewhere to sleep,” Ryo assured her.
As soon as the woman had left, Dee and Ryo shed their wet clothes, draped them around the room to air dry, and towelled their hair. Dee flopped onto the bed and bounced a couple times.
“One room, one very comfy bed…” He grinned up at his lover. “And a storm ragin’ outside to drown out any noise we might make. We may be way behind schedule, but I can think of worse situations to be in.”
Ryo blushed as he started pulling on clean, dry clothes. “Get dressed if you want to eat, because I doubt you’ll be allowed in the dining room like that.”
“Ah c’mon, babe, lighten up! If we’re gonna be stranded for a day or two, this is a pretty nice room.”
Pausing with one sock on, Ryo looked around. “Yes, it is. Way better than that motel last night. Just keep your hands, and everything else, to yourself at dinner. The last thing we need is to be kicked out into the storm.”
“And later, when we’re back in our room?”
“Depends on how quiet you can be.” Ryo leaned in for a kiss.
“I can be as quiet as you want, just try me.”
The storm raged on for three more days, but Dee and Ryo, snug and warm in their cosy hotel room, found they didn’t mind a bit. They had plenty to keep them occupied, trying to be as quiet as the proverbial mice.

They might even be readable somewhere online, one of the manga sites, but I like having the books close to hand for reference purposes ;)
