Summary: Jiang Cheng and his family are getting settled in their new home.

Jiang Cheng let the screen door close with a bang as he entered the house for another pitcher of lemonade. Through the open kitchen windows, the sound of laughing children carried loud and clear. He allowed himself a smile.

The move to Qinghe had taken remarkably little time. Once the paperwork divesting himself of any assets or responsibility to Jiang Holdings had been completed and delivered, he’d jumped immediately into sorting his belongings and the kids’ into piles of ‘keep’, ‘toss’, and ‘donate’.

His kids had gotten into the act as well, resulting in a very important lesson on what was important, what wasn’t, and how those two things differed from person to person. Jingyi and Zizhen were amazing children and he was so lucky to have them in his life. He was lucky to have his husband.

Nie Mingjue appeared as if by magic on the tail end of that thought. He entered the kitchen, from the living room, and crowded Jiang Cheng up against the kitchen counter, leaning down to kiss the shorter man thoroughly.

“Hello there,” he crooned, nipping the skin just below and behind Jiang Cheng’s ear, sending delicious shivers down his husband’s spine.

“You’re certainly feeling frisky,” Jiang Cheng observed, trying for snarky and landing on shaken. “The cable all set up?”

Nie Mingjue grinned, not at all put off by the change in subject. “Yep. We have television.” Kiss. “And internet.” Kiss. “And only a few extra holes in the wall.” Kiss.

Jiang Cheng swallowed hard, trying to keep his cool. It wouldn’t be a good idea to give in and get distracted when the kids were still outside with Huaisang and Xuanyu. Not without warning the other two adults, anyway.

Nie Mingjue held up his phone. “I texted Huaisang when I heard you come in. He and Xuanyu are going to watch the kids for the next hour. Wanna go unmake our freshly made bed?”

Jiang Cheng launched himself at Nie Mingjue, wrapping around him like an octopus. “Let’s go,” he demanded. “Right now.” And then proceeded to start biting his way down Nie Mingjue’s throat.

The big man cupped his ass in broad, warm palms and laughed, carrying him off to the bedroom.

“If my husband insists,” he said with a devil-may-care grin. “Who am I to say no?”

Later, after the kids were worn out from playing in the huge back yard and dinner had been eaten, Nie Mingjue took the boys off for bath story time. Jiang Cheng sat on the screened in porch area with Nie Huaisang and Mo Xuanyu, sipping lemonade and listening to night insects and the peeper frogs that lived on the edges of the garden pond.

“It’s good to be back,” Nie Huaisang said, sipping on some fancy artisanal alcohol. He was sprawled across a loveseat, his legs in Mo Xuanyu’s lap. “I’d forgotten how much I loved it here.”

“Your home is really beautiful,” Jiang Cheng agreed.

“Our,” Nie Huaisang retorted, gesturing to Jiang Cheng with his bottle. “You’re a Nie, too.”

Jiang Cheng blinked, unexpectedly touched.

“Oh look!” Mo Xuanyu’s face lit up as he pointed. “Lightning bugs!”

They watched the flickering insects in silence for a moment, enjoying the peace.

“We needed this,” Nie Huaisang decided, stretching luxuriously and wiggling around to put his head in Mo Xuanyu’s lap. “The city is great and all. Our friends are lovely. But I missed this.”

Mo Xuanyu bent down and kissed the tip of Nie Huaisang’s nose. “Thank you for sharing your home with me.”

“You’re a Nie now, too,” Jiang Cheng pointed out. “You’re as much a part of this family as I am.”

Mo Xuanyu blushed, averting his gaze to stare out into the night. Nie Huaisang cooed, taking a lock of his boyfriend’s hair and running it through his fingers. “Too cute, A-Yu,” he teased, tugging lightly.

“Be nice, A-Sang,” Nie Mingjue chided, with a mock scowl. He joined them on the porch, plucking Jiang Cheng up from his chair and then sitting down with Jiang Cheng in his lap. He gave his blushing husband a kiss on the cheek. “The boys are sound asleep. They’re sharing A-Zhen’s bed tonight.”

Jiang Cheng nodded. “That’s fine. I can’t believe they went down this easy. A-Yi runs on solar energy, I swear.”

“And chicken nuggets,” Mo Xuanyu added. “He ate over fifty just by himself.”

“Good lord,” Nie Huaisang giggled so hard, he hiccuped. “He’s going to grow feathers!”

“Who let A-Sang get into the baijiu?” Nie Mingjue raised an eyebrow at his giggly little brother.

“He’s an adult,” Jiang Cheng grumbled, tugging on Nie Mingjue’s ear. “He can make his own choices.”

“Sure, fine, okay!” Nie Mingjue winced, freeing his ear. “Hope Mo Xuanyu likes giggly, clingy drunks, then. He’s only going to get worse.”

As if to prove a point, Nie Huaisang gave a delicate little burp and then giggled. He fluttered his eyelashes at Mo Xuanyu. “Da-ge,” he slurred, flapping a hand at Nie Mingjue. “Da-ge, look at my pretty boy-friiiiend!”

Nie Mingjue just smirked. “Yep.”

Mo Xuanyu covered his face with his hands. “Oh my god,” he shrieked quietly.

Nie Huaisang giggled in his lap and tugged on the lock of hair. “A-Yu, A-Yu, you’re so pretty. I’m so lucky to be your boyfriend. A-Yu, A-Yu, I want to paint you!”

Nie Mingjue smirked at the blushing Mo Xuanyu. “Are you going to be able to get him to bed? I can carry him for you, if you can’t.”

“No, I’ve got him,” Mo Xuanyu brushed his fingertips across his giggling boyfriend’s forehead. “I’m stronger than I look.”

“We already knew that,” Jiang Cheng said. “You survived everything your family threw at you and you’re still the biggest sweetheart.”

Mo Xuanyu hid his face again. “Oh my god, stop,” he pleaded. “I can’t deal with people being sweet to me.”

Jiang Cheng grinned, relaxing in Nie Mingjue’s arms. This was worth all the burned bridges.
