[#122] You'd Miss This (Supernatural)

Theme Prompt: Novelty
Title: You'd Miss This
Fandom: Supernatural
Rating/Warnings: Teen and Up Audiences, Canon-Typical Violence, Blood
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 486
Summary: Sam and Dean rehash an old conversation while fighting off werewolves.

“You know,” Dean began, as he checked that the safety was off on his Colt MK IV (didn’t want that thing not firing during a fight), “I’m starting to think we should settle down. You know, this whole hunting thing is getting old.”

Sam lowered his own Colt pistol to the floor, flashlight going with it, as he turned to Dean. “Dude, you always say that, and then—”

There was a growl, and then they weren’t alone in the dark hallway. Floorboards creaked, and dust flurried up, as the werewolf charged. Dean didn’t even have a chance to aim. It was too close.

The thing lunged at him, and he went down, cracking the back of his head against the floor. For a few seconds he saw stars, but he stayed in the fight on pure instinct and training. His gun fell from his hand, but he knew to keep the thing’s teeth away from him. Dean had a hand on its neck, legs trying to twist about it to get a grip on it, to maybe turn and pin it.

Sam managed to come from behind, and grab the werewolf, hauling it off of Dean. It tried to bite him, tried to turn his little brother, and Dean saw red. In a flash, he had his silver knife out. As he went to stab, he was grabbed from behind, claws sinking into his flesh.

Another werewolf.

It tried dragging him away into the dark, Dean screaming.

He fell, scrabbled for his gun, and twisted, ankle barking in pain. With a cry, he squeezed the trigger.

BANG!

His ears rang, the muzzle flash like burnished gold in the dark nearly blinding him. Blood splattered, some getting in his mouth, up his nose. But it went down, and Dean was free.

He turned just in time to see Sam stabbing the remaining werewolf, its body slumping to the floor, blood gushing from its chest.

Dean wiped his mouth on his sleeve, and spat.

Freakin’ gross.

Sam offered him his hand, and Dean took it, clambering to his feet. He checked his pistol, turned the safety back on, and put the gun back in the waistband of his jeans.

“So you’re saying you wouldn’t miss this?” Sam asked.

“That thing bled in my mouth!” Dean argued, to which his brother broke out in riotous laughter.

“Yeah, laugh it up. But it’s not like its a novelty or anything. We’ve killed werewolves before.”

Making their way back out of the abandoned house, Sam said, “Then maybe we just need to do something new.”

“Oh, what, like fight God’s sister again? No, thank you.”

Sam rolled his eyes. “Fine, but you’d miss it.”

Dean just turned his lips up slightly in a grim smile. Yeah, he’d miss it. Maybe that made him messed up, but the way he saw it, he was too far along to do anything about it.

There's a lot to be said for the familiar, even if it's a dangerous way to live!

I loved the action in this as well as the brotherly banter!
