[#123] SAVED BY THE STORM (STAR WARS: ORIGINAL TRILOGY)
Theme Prompt: #123 - Snowed In
Title: Saved by the Storm
Fandom: Star Wars (Original Trilogy)
Rating / Warnings: PG
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 254 words
Summary: The storm on Hoth arrives earlier than usual, which changes things. (AU)
Outside the hangar, the icy storm howled. Luke had planned to go on patrol, but the severity of the sudden storm had made it too dangerous to go outside, his superiors had reluctantly informed him.
Left unsaid were the words that Luke was too valuable to the Rebellion to endanger at a time like this.
"I guess that's that, then," Luke had said shortly.
However, hearing how fierce the storm was outside, maybe it was best staying indoors. Anyway, he was busy checking his X-wing for anything that needed repairs. Artoo, his constant companion, was only a few metres away and occasionally beeped and whistled conversation at him.
Someone had placed heat lamps nearby and Luke was secretly glad of this. Having spent his whole life until recently on a hot desert world, encountering actual snow had been such a shock here on Hoth.
Of course, Han had smirked at him and said, 'Never been anywhere much, have you kid," with the air of someone who had seen a hundred worlds.
None of the rebels were to know until later - when they found its remains - that an Imperial probe droid had been sent to Hoth, but key parts had been damaged by the storm before it could find and transmit details of the location of their base. They were safe for now, perhaps for a long while.
These things happened, some Imperials had shrugged. Why bother You-Know-You about it? Such storms could rule out the presence of rebels on Hoth... and the fleet moved on.
