[#001] Base Elements (Wolf's Rain)

Theme Prompt: #001 – Second Chances
Title: Base Elements
Fandom: Wolf's Rain
Rating/Warnings: G - N/A
Bonus: Yes.
Word Count: 278
Summary: Blue contemplates Kiba, the focal point of the "new" world she's attempting to join.

They couldn't be more different, she knew.

She didn't have to know Kiba to know that he was wild - he was hard-bodied, and soft-voiced, and subtle in movement: an animal confident in his belonging to the world; and belonging to no one, now, she ached for that.

But then she realized, ruefully, that the others were unlike him, too - Toboe'd had a home, like she'd had, and Hige had had the city, and Tsume'd had a pack before. All were in a now that he wasn't, and she supposed that that was what made him their leader - a distant white moon to chase that she'd once thought she could run down, because Pops had willed that she try; resolving that she'd try, now, to see how it felt to run with it.

Their now was one that they occupied as wolves. Her past was one which she occupied as a dog, and she doubted she could tear herself away from it - too much loyalty to memories of family; a "pack" before, she reasoned, in an attempt to reconcile opposing selves, which she couldn't un-become a member of.

But she told herself, resolute, that she could fit into this pack, too - even if not as a wolf, like Hige, Toboe, and Tsume did, then as a shadow of the moon - not so secure in its belonging, but willing to go where the notion of it led her.

The five of them ran - moon-white Kiba, steel-blue-silver Tsume, brass-yellow Hige, hearthfire-red Toboe, and her, Blue, the black in which anything could be found, wild or manmade.

Willing to believe that together, they were part of something complete, and belonged to that.
