Title: fire-bright inspiration
Fandom: Transformers IDW 2005

Summary: Hot Rod, in his special agent days, discusses tactics.
Hot Rod looked out over the cliff at the base below, noting the tall turret towers and the high walls. They had said it would be near-impossible to get into.
Yeah, alright, this one was going to be a challenge, that was for sure. But something about the way the towers were backlit by the sun, red like fire in the evening night...
The individual pieces of the plan coalesced out of basically nowhere, something in the view striking some chord well outside his conscious mind. That was how it usually happened; inspiration was a strange thing. Sometimes these things just came to you.
He turned it over in his mind a couple times, thinking. Yeah, it was a start. It might work.
"Hey, Dealer."
Dealer looked up from whatever it was he was doing on his tablet. "Yeah?"
"Think I got an idea for how to deal with this."
"Is it a good idea?" Dealer asked, dubious.
Hot Rod shrugged. "It's an idea. Let me run this by you."
Dealer nodded, and so Hot Rod laid his idea out, piece by piece, feeling it come together further as he spoke. Dealer nodded along, and asked a few clarifying questions here and there, and then at the end he sighed and shook his head.
"What?" asked Hot Rod.
Dealer looked him flat in the optics. "What do you mean, what? This is a terrible plan."
"Alright. But do you think it'll work?"
"You're gonna get yourself killed."
"If I don't, do you think it'll work? I'd be soloing it, it's not like anyone else's neck is on the line."
Dealer shook his head, sitting straight up. "You're insane. Yeah, I think it'll work. If you don't turn yourself into a crater while you're doing it."
Hot Rod couldn't stop the grin starting to spread across his face at that. "Well, you know me, Dealer. I'm always up for a challenge."

Hot Rod is a big daredevil, and he's more likely to go after a terrible flashy plan with a 0.01% margin of error than a safer one just because it sounds more "fun", too...
