[#148 | Publicity] Challenge Post

Challenge 148:
PUBLICITY
Sometimes you don’t get a choice about whether or not you’re the center of attention! Some jobs – celebrity, politician, superhero – inherently come with a certain amount of public attention; other jobs don’t necessarily require the spotlight all the time, but might draw attention over an unusual event like a major scientific discovery or an exciting scandal.

Publicity can be a double-edged sword. It may draw attention to important causes, bringing in public support, money, or important allies; but it can also put an uncomfortable spotlight on someone who doesn’t care for it, and might reveal things the subject would rather keep quiet. Sometimes it brings things to light that the world desperately needs to know, and other times it highlights things that really should have been kept private. How do your characters handle publicity? Is it a good thing, no matter what, and something to seek out? A necessary evil to be used judiciously? Or something to be avoided at all costs?

Write a story about publicity.

BONUS GOAL: "Don't say I'm irritable. It really—it really irritates me."

If your submission includes this line, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!

Challenge ends Monday, August 22 at 9:00PM EST.
