[#149] No Medicine to Procure (Legends of Tomorrow)

Theme Prompt: #149 - Glitch
Title: No Medication to Procure
Fandom: Legends of Tomorrow (DCTV)
Rating/Warnings: PG-13
Bonus: Yes.
Word Count: 821
Summary: Behrad needs help from a different version of his sister.

Behrad pokes his head around the door to Zari’s room, watching his sister with an apprehensive gaze. She stares back at him, a microfiber towel wrapped around her wet hair, before raising a perfectly manicured eyebrow. The ship has been on the fritz for hours, mostly because Gideon’s been on the fritz for hours, and he knows that the entire crew is looking for him to provide to solution.

It’s days like this that he misses having Ray around. When Ray was part of the team, he could use him as an easy sounding board for his mechanical problems. Of the current members of the team, he’s the only one with the technological know-how to get things done, and for this problem, he’s coming up empty. He needs help.

Help from the version of Zari that is sitting on his sister’s wrist.

When Behrad doesn’t speak right away, Zari huffs. “Well? Have you fixed Gidget yet?”

“Not exactly,” he sighs, before taking another step in. “I need your help.”

My help?” Zari frowns. “I may be a business genius, but I know nothing about this AI stuff.”

“No. Not you you. I need—”

“Flannel Zari.” Zari finishes with a sigh. “It’s really that bad?”

“It’s really that bad.” He crosses his arms in front of his chest. “And I hate to do this to you, because I know you had plans, but unless I get the ship working, no one is going anywhere and you’re going to keep looking like drowned rat.”

“You’re right,” she sighs. “At least the totem probably has a blow dryer.” She lifts her wrist, tapping the red jewel of her totem and previous timeline Zari appears in the gust of wind, blinking at him in confusion.

“Behrad. Is everything okay?”

“I need your help. Gideon is glitching and I need a sounding board.”

“How bad is the glitch?”

“Greetings, Ms. Tomaz. There is a spread of the kitchen of walnuts and staplers if you are hungry. The current song of the day is the Electric Slide.”

As the peppy dance track plays through the speakers, Zari’s eyes widen as she turns back to her brother. “That’s pretty bad.”

“Yep. So help? Please?”

Zari nods before gesturing for her brother to lead the way. “Let’s do this.”

* * * * *

“Hand me that coupling? I think I might see where things are going wrong.”

Behrad nods, reaching for the part they set to the side. Once he passes it to Zari, she looks it over and nods. After a few more minutes of tinkering, she pulls back with a smile.

“Well, there’s your problem. The couplings are breaking down and it seems to have dislodged one of her logic drives.”

Behrad snaps his fingers. “See, I knew it was something in the logic drive, but all the code looked fine. I didn’t think that it could be a hardware issue.”

“That’s why you bring in help,” she smiles, before reaching forward to fit the coupling back into place. “And I’m happy to. You know that. But Fancy Z isn’t always going to be around to offer me up.”

“Yeah, I know.” Behrad sighs as he goes to sit down, his back up against the servers. “I used to have Ray for stuff like this. But ever since he left, the Legends haven’t really brought on anyone techie to replace him. No Wally, no Martin, no Jax. Just me. It’s hard taking care of a big ship all on your own.” A beat as looks up at the ceiling. “Not that I mind the job, Gideon.”

“Of course, Mr. Tarazi. Caring for a time ship is a never-ending process. Similar, in some ways, to looking after the Legends.”

“I think the Legends are a lot more like herding cats, Gideon,” Zari smiles as she turns to sit next to her brother. “But nice to hear you making sense again.”

“You have no idea what a relief it is. Thank you both for your help.”

“Of course.” Zari then turns back to her brother. “I think you could find someone techie enough who would enjoy hanging on a time machine for a little while. Maybe it’s a matter of doing your own recruiting. You know that Sara would have your back.”

Behrad nods slowly. “Maybe someone like … Ryan Choi?”

“Haven’t met him,” Zari admits. “But I trust your instincts. And I think the captains would, too.”

Behrad nods. “I’ll take it into consideration.” He drapes an arm around her shoulders and pulls her close. “Think you have to go back right away, or can I talk you into a couple of rounds of Mario Kart?”

Zari glances down at her totem before nodding. “Yeah. I think I have time for that.”

After all, she doesn’t think Fancy Zari will begrudge her a little brother time. They have plenty of it, after all. They’re time travelers.

Aw, poor Gideon, logic circuits all out of whack! Good thing Zari could fix the problem.
