[#149] Warning System
Theme Prompt: #149 - Glitch
Title: Warning System
Fandom: Transformers Cartoon G1
Rating/Warnings: General |Takes place after Wasteland (can be read as stand-alone ficlet)
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 545
Summary: The Rainmakers remember the glitches they suffered while being in the Pripyat area
“What’s that thing for?” Ion Storm asked, pointing at the small yellow brick-like object Shockwave had just placed on the table.
“Never saw anything like that before.” Nova Storm remarked, shrugging his shoulders. “Humans create weird stuff, which is too tiny for us to use anyways.
Acid Storm gazed at the object on the table, then at Shockwave a few astro-seconds longer than he usually does before he turned his gaze away.
“I could swear I’ve seen something like this before, but then”, he shrugged his shoulders, “human stuff looks pretty much the same. Such primitive technology.”
Shockwave silently observed the Rainmakers, listen to their conversation. He caught Acid Storm’s look but didn’t reacted to it. He remained in his usual composure.
“That thing is for detecting radiation.” Shockwave replied to Ion Storm’s question what it seem astro-minutes later.
Nova Storm let his optics wander over Shockwave’s chest and back to the yellow device. “I’ve heard about these things. Humans call them counter of whatever the name of the unit is that they use to measure radiation.”
Shockwave nodded softly. “Remember when you’ve discovered the abandoned city in the Eastern hemisphere?”
The seeker trine exchanged uneasy looks. It had been Earth-weeks since they’ve came across this strange area which had messed with their instruments, causing them to risk losing control over themselves.
“I hope I’ll never have to go there again”, Acid Storm muttered.
Shockwave laughed with a low voice. “Afraid of the radiation on Earth? You seeker are such fragile creations.”
“We could have crash-landed in this no-mans-land”, Nova Storm remarked, shivering when he thought back of how close he had been to the destroyed building, which he had learned later, was the local power plant of the area which had suffered great damage when one of the nuclear reactors had exploded. “I felt my system glitching. A wrong turn here, another there. Losing height too fast. At one point the signals I picked up where all blurred in a constant static noise.”
His teammates nodded. “The worst was the feeling of my conscious fading away. But we can’t faint like humans so that scared the hell out of me.” Ion Storm added to Nova Storm's explanations of what they had expired while they had been surrounded by an unknown amount of radiation.
“I thought that I would never return to the Nemesis.” Acid Storm murmured, feeling like a coward.
"Well, there’s your problem!” Shockwave let his yellow optic wander over Nova Storm from his head to feet. “You’re sensitive to great levels of radiation and you’re lacking a system that warns you, when you come to close to an area which is radioactive. Therefore I spent stellar-cycles creating an upgraded version of the ‘Geiger-counter’ you see here.”
Once more silence filled the room. “You’ll soon get them installed but first met my newest creation and your commander for the next mission to the site of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.”
The Rainmakers shivered, unsure what was more frightening: to return to the site of the accident, knowing that there was an invisible enemy waiting for them or hearing Shockwave talking about one of this experiments.
“Sunstorm, come and met your team.” Shockwave commanded. A yellow seeker appeared but stopped in the door frame.

Over time it will show how dear this place is to me (my little morbid obsession)
At the momemt I have a bunch of things to write / work on that I can't start a new thing.
