Summary: Liv and Major reminisce about their days back in Seattle.

Music wafts through the open halls of the room, soft so that it doesn’t wake the assorted zombie children with super hearing. Liv can’t help but smile at the sound, swaying back and forth a bit at the kitchen sink before she can catch herself. Major always knows how to pluck at her heartstrings, even after all this time.

Setting the last of the drying dishes to the side, she wanders through the house, searching for any sign of her husband, and eventually she rounds the corner to find him in the living room by the record player.

“I know that song,” she says softly, smiling at the memory. “That’s from when we were on old married couple brain.”

Major turns to her with a shrug and flashes her the charming smile that always makes her weak in the knees. “It’s a classic for a reason. Can’t blame a guy for stealing a few moves from a pro.” Major extends a hand to her, offering to pull her in closer.

She reaches out to take it with a smile. “No, you can’t.”

Major doesn’t disappoint, pulling her into a spin and then cradling her close. Her head easily finds his shoulder, closing her eyes as she leans against the strong, solid presence who has been her rock for so long. Once upon a time, she thought that being a zombie meant never being able to have what she wanted. To know that it all ends here, her with the man she loves in a home that they built, with no zombie drama to speak of…it almost makes those years of suffering worth it.

Almost.

Major’s head dips down next to hers, leaning to whisper in her ear. “Do you miss any of it?”

She lifts her head with a small smile. “Any of what? Constantly running for my life and trying to hide the fact that I’m a zombie from everyone.”

Major snorts. “Well, when you put it like that…”

“It’s complicated,” she admits. “I was so depressed and lonely all the time. I didn’t know what to do with my life. But without it, I wouldn’t have met Ravi or Clive. I wouldn’t have learned so much about myself.” Liv pauses before looking up at him with a smile. “And I don’t think I would have been here.”

Major raises an eyebrow. “You think so? You remember we were engaged, once upon a time.”

“I do,” Liv sighs. “But I also don’t think we were the right people for each other then. Not the way we’re the right people for each other now. Does that make sense?”

Major tips his head back, considering, but she can tell by the wrinkle in his nose that he doesn’t. “Respectfully, I’m going to disagree with you on that one.”

“Oh, really?” She grins as she lets him dip, her fingers curling tight against his shoulder. “What makes you say that?”

“Because you, Olivia Moore, were always those things to me. Resilient, strong, resourceful. I couldn’t believe that you decided you wanted me way back then. And it crushed me when you took it all back.” He pulls her up, his free hand coming up to let his thumb brush against the apple of her cheek. “Because I always knew that you were my person. For better or worse.”

Liv smiles softly at that, before leaning in to kiss him. “You always had more faith than I did.”

“You’re easy to have faith in.” His hand moves to the small of her back to steady her and keep her close. “But I think you’re a little right. I had to come into my own a little too. I had to feel like we were standing on the same feet.”

Liv nods as she pulls back, settling back into her comfortable dance stance. “And now we have the life we always wanted. Not bad for a pair of zombies, huh?”

Major grins as he starts swaying in time to the music again, letting them lose themselves in the moment. “No. Not bad at all.”
