[#152] War Time Promise (Transformers Cartoon G1)
Theme Prompt: #152 - Honesty
Title: War Time Promise
Fandom: Transformers Cartoon G1
Rating/Warnings: Gen | None
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 860
Summary: Two confessions lead to a promise in dark times
AN: Set in the setting of my WIP 'Love Is A Battlefield', therefore Bumblebee and Starscream are an item.
Bumblebee looked up to Optimus, whose thinking expression caused him to regret it with passing astro-second that he had asked him to have a talk under four optics.
He had been vague about who it was, but he had confessed to Optimus that there was someone on Earth he had fallen in love with.
If Optimus had been shocked from this revelation, he hadn’t shown it, besides from wide optics for the blink of an optic. He hadn’t asked him who it was, probably because he assumed that it was a fellow Autobot, that was at least was Bumblebee thought. In reality Optimus was curious but he had sworn to himself, that he would never want to know who was with who. In the end feelings where are a complicated matter and a factor that could lead to problems and the consequences could be grave, therefore he had decided that he would turn a blind optic on this private aspect of every Autobot under his command.
Bumblebee felt Optimus servo on his shoulder, as Optimus had bend down to be on optic-level with him.
“Does the one your spark had chosen makes you happy?”
That was a question Bumblebee hadn’t expected. “Uhm … Yes. Very happy.” He answered honestly but with a tad of hesitation, since he wasn’t sure if Optimus was having any intentions of getting more information about the one he loved.
“You make decisions, you have to live with the consequences.” Optimus looked into Bumblebee’s optics, giving the young Autobot time to proceed the meaning of his warning he had spoken with fatherly care.
Bumblebee nodded. He had already faced some of the consequences but he had sworn to himself, that he would find a way to deal with them. He had to and it was consoling to know that Starscream had to deal with more or less the same consequences as well.
If only they could be together more often to give each other the strength to carry on. It was laborious work to keep the relationship a secret and only if the mutual dream of a time of peace would come true they could dare to think about revealing that they were sharing a bond, which even a war couldn’t destroy.
“I know I’m responsible for whatever happens. I can assure you, Optimus I’ll be careful.” The answer seemed to be enough for Optimus, who parted with reminding Bumblebee that even being in love was the greatest gift one could receive in their existence, one shouldn’t take it for granted and more importantly: one shouldn’t let the soft sentiments take control over their processor.
Bumblebee remained silent and looked after Optimus until he had left the room. He had known that this conversation would be a painful reminder that the love he felt was more a curse than a blessing. Once again he wished that under inexplicable circumstances his relationship with Starscream would help end the war.
They could become the reminder that an Autobot and a Decepticon could see each other with the optics of a lover.
‘You should stop day dreaming about the impossible.’ Bumblebee reminded himself as he headed towards the exit of the room.
‘No. I’m not alone with the wish for peace and I won’t give up this comforting day dream.’ He added once his previous thought had ended.
Yes, he had to live with the consequences but what if in the end they would turn out to be good consequences? Why was it that Autobots and humans a like, always thought of something negative when they heard the word consequence?
In the following deca-cycles Bumblebee began to doubt the rightness of talking with Optimus more and more. What if the Autobot leader was watching him with watchful optics. There had been times when Bumblebee felt as if Optimus was waiting for him to make a mistake and unwillingly reveal that he wasn’t loving an Autobot.
“What’s troubling you, Bee?” Starscream asked him, while he examined his face.
He knew that they didn’t had much time but he tried to silence the voice which was telling him, that they shouldn’t be absent from the battle field for too long.
What mattered at the moment was Bumblebee and Starscream had noticed from the first astro-second they had been alone, that there was something which troubled his beloved little Autobot.
“Nothing serious.” Bumblebee answered, but as soon as he locked his optics with Starscream’s he continued with lower voice. “At least I hope so.”
Starscream’s worried and slightly confused look prompted Bumblebee to continue to speak. “Forgive me, but I told Optimus that I love someone because I needed an advice.”
“You haven’t told him who you love, right? If I may ask: What advice did you needed?”
“No, no of course not. See … I wanted to know if … uhm … if it’s right to promise someone to be with them until the end of mutual existence, with this war going on for seemingly all time.”
Starscream embraced Bumblebee and held him tightly. “Especially in these dark times love and all the hopes connected to it are of great importance.”

Believe me there are moments when I want to try out and see what happens if Optimus finds out who he is with. Just because this is not planned for the final version of this wip.

Or write it as an alternative scene next month. Could be a great chance to get some words for NaNo done

I said to myself that I will still do the usual prompts but won't count these words to my NaNo goal. Which is 25K added to "battlefield".
I know even if I would have a month off from work I could never write 50K words (unless I would really do just brain-vomit and don't care what I write)

There was one year, I guess it was 2017 or 2016, when I had an idea and where I had a brilliant start and if some real life event wouldn't have happened which caused me to stop working on that story, I know that I would have managed to write that much and "win" NaNo.
Nowadays I set a personal goal for myself and decide which WIP is the priority of the month and then I'll see what happens.
Better less writing and being satisfied with what I've written. What is the use of writing down words you sense while writing will end up in the scrap folder anyways?

I remember that for one of the challenges on here I wrote my piece last minute and it made it to the first place, which came as a surprise since I assumed that it was just an 'okay' piece.
I had a rough week at work and nearly missed the deadline but I was determined to submit something.
In the end I still prefer to write in my own pace as well. I've learned the hard way that unlike other writers I can't push myself to do stuff and write better under pressure, especially when it is combined with a certain word count.
I prefer challenges which are low-pressure where it is alright if you can't finish a piece, since you never know what life has in store for you. Or you have an idea when you sign up but then you just can't get in the mood for this idea etc ...
This pressure is why I left the RP side on here. Too many threads going on, and if I hadn't replied somewhere for two or three days I felt bad.

I used to be a very slow writer, but I learned to write fast when fic_promptly was active. The contest weeks taught me to come up with ideas and get them written. When the idea is to fill as many prompts in a week as you can, with each day having a theme, it was a case of choosing a prompt, writing something, posting it, choosing another prompt... My highest number in a week was, if I'm remembering right, 65. It was tough, but it was fun. I couldn't do it now though, it meant writing all day every day for a week, while still fitting in my other challenges as well. Very little else got done during Contest Weeks. Nowadays, I prefer to take my time a bit *grins*

I know that the pieces I like the most, are probably never going to be the pieces my readers like the most.
Oh yes, I remember that when I started writing I was very slow and it was only until around 2012 that I became a faster writer.
I've looked at previous 'long wips' (thought that they were long back then) and all I see are 5K or at most 7K.
Current me cackles because nowadays my long wips (or temporary scraps) are usually 10K and more.
I prefer to writer less but in the best way possible. I don't need an impressive word count when I'm not satisfied with my works.

The only time I try to write to a particular length is when it's for a challenge with some kind of minimum or maximum word count. For everything else I prefer to let the story dictate how long or short it wants to be. Having said that, I do set a wordcount goal each year to help keep me motivated and writing.

It's the thing I'll work on tonight when in come home from visiting a friend.
It is currently just a few hundred words as I try to get the setting right. At first glance it's an easy crossover but once I began I realized that I need to approach it in a different way.
Looking forward to see where this story goes (once more I picked characters I haven't seen much in fics).
That's always the best when you just stop when you sense that you've written all what needs to be written. Nothing is worse than writing some unnecessary things just to make it longer.
Sometimes you don't need thousands of words.
Personally I always chose a word count goal because it is easier for me.

Some things I write for challenges are fine, but others feel like they need more so I work on them again at a later date.
I decided to set my goal this year at 150k, but I'm well past that so now I'm aiming for 250k.
Ideas can change once you really start thinking about them and realise your first approach wasn't going to work. I think few stories come out exactly the way you intend them to. I remember one fanfic writer I know plotted out a story that would be, she thought, around 10 chapters. It ended up being closer to 100 chapters because it changed so much as she wrote it. That's what I love about writing because you never really know what's going to happen once you start.
