Title: Au Revoir-Until We Meet Again
Fandom: Highlander/Forever Knight crossover

Word Count: 1000
Summary: Methos (Highlander) the 5000 year old immortal runs into the 4000 year old vampire (Asha, an original character in my Forever Knight series) along with Nick Knight (Steele) and Lucien Lacroix in the year 2030.

Methos looked around the club, bobbing his head in time with the beat. There was something off about some of the patrons, but he couldn’t immediately identify what it was. He’d never been to The Cave before but there was a flyer for it in his hotel room, so he was checking it out. Good crowd, and pretty good music so far. He went to check out the ‘rock’ room. He stepped inside and found they were playing hardcore industrial tonight and there were plenty of writhing bodies enjoying it.

He was about to turn around and go back to the main room when one of the bodies separated from the crowd and headed right toward him. The man looked vaguely familiar. Maybe. He’d met so many people in his 5000 years on earth that there was no way to remember them all. But this one… He was handsome but not overly so. Dark hair, darkish skin that looked washed out underneath, lanky body… but he just couldn’t remember.

“I killed you! I know I did.”

Ah, yes, now he remembered. “Yes, you did,” he shouted. “About two thousand years ago, if memory serves.” Methos remembered the feeling of this man’s teeth in his neck, but he didn’t know what to call the creature then and he never met another one like him in all the years since.

“But how? You are not a…” The man looked around and waved for him to follow. The man led him back through the main room where they were joined by two additional men. One was a blondish man with soft features and a look of intense interest on his face. The other was a stately-looking man with a buzz haircut and regal posture who seemed amused.

They went into a room with a window looking into the club, but no music penetrated. The dark-haired man inquired, “You are not a vampire, how are you still alive?”

“You are all vampires.” It was a statement, not a question. “And here I thought you were special.” Deciding that this could be amusing, Methos took a seat in one of the chairs. “Why don’t we introduce ourselves and have a conversation? I’m Adam Pantazi.”

The stately-looking man barked out a laugh, “Adam Live Forever? Good one. I’m Lucien Lacroix.”

All the vampires sat down in various chairs with Lucien sitting closest. Methos smiled. “It seems we share the same whimsy in naming ourselves, Mr. Light of the Cross.”

“Nicholas Steele.” The blondish one said. Uninspired name.

“Asha Kish. Now, tell me how this is possible.”

“I’m immortal but not a vampire,” Methos said. “You didn’t think you were the only creatures outside of nature, did you? Surely, you’ve come across others?”

“Not like you.” Asha said.

“Odds are that a vampire will ‘kill’ an immortal now and then. Did I taste different?” Methos asked.

“Yes, you did. Like… supercharged? Is that the word, Nick?”

“Probably. How did you remember him, Asha?” Nick asked.

“I felt him across the room, somewhat like feeling family but different. And who could forget that nose?”

“It is magnificent, isn’t it?” Methos smiled. “Well, it’s been fun catching up, but I think I’ll go dance.” He moved to get out of the chair, but Lucien put a hand on his chest, preventing him from moving. Damn, these vampires were very strong.

“You haven’t told us the circumstances of your first meeting. I love a good tale.” Lucien said.

Methos shrugged and said, “I was in a village in what is now one of the ‘stans’…” He noticed Asha frown in confusion. “Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, etcetera. I don’t know where, exactly, it would be today, just someplace in that region.” Asha then nodded. “Anyway, I was there, probably because of a woman or research or some such. One night, I was sleeping and heard screaming outside. I grabbed my sword and went out to see what was happening.”

Asha took over the tale. “My Maker and my brother were with me. We were having a lovely slaughter. I came upon this one, standing there, naked, looking into the darkness. Not running to help anyone. Just standing there, sword in his hand. He stabbed me before I could get my hands on him. Very good instincts. But I did get hold of him and drank him dry.”

“You used to have long hair,” Methos said, then nodded his head. “Yes, I completely remember now. It took me a long time to wake up after.”

“How long does it usually take?” Nick asked.

“Depends on the damage. I assume you heal from most things also?”

“Yes. The speed varies depending on the damage amount and if we can get fresh blood to aid in the healing.” Lucien said.

“How old are you?” Asha asked, bluntly.

He didn’t see any harm in telling them the truth. “My first memories are of about five thousand years ago although that’s not precise since we used to…count differently,” he and Asha said the last two words at the same time. He smiled at him. “I don’t know if there was anything before that or if that was when my first death happened. You?”

“A little over four thousand,” Asha said.

“A little less than two thousand,” Lucien said. He looked at Nick.

“I’m the baby. I’m eight hundred and two.”

“So, you’re all of an age to understand why I’m getting the hell out of here. I’m assuming the club is full of vampires?”

“About 70% human tonight,” Asha said. “You’re lucky we’re in a no-bite town because you would be a good captive to have. Never-ending supply of jet fuel blood.” He grinned with fangs and glowing green eyes.

“Yep, that’s my cue to leave. Nice meeting everyone. Don’t take this the wrong way, but I hope we never meet again.”

“Au revoir.” Lacroix said. “We will meet again.”

“Great, just great,” he muttered as the door closed behind him. “MacLeod will never believe this one.”
