[#093 - True Love] You and Me (Criminal Minds, Marvel Cinematic Universe)
Theme Prompt: #093 - True Love
Title: You and Me
Fandom: Crossover between Criminal Minds and the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Rating/Warnings: G! CW there is a proposal and a kiss
Bonus: No
Word Count: 902
Summary: Penelope and Darcy have been dating for a while now and, as hectic as their lives are, they find peace in each other. Darcy decides to put a ring on it
Penelope leaned her head back against the knees propped up behind her, letting her eyes slip closed as her partner’s fingers combed through her curls. It had been a long day of murder and mayhem for the BAU, but it was moments like these that made it all worth it.
“Hey Darce?” she murmured, fighting against the onslaught of sleep, “you know I love you, right?”
Behind Penelope, a small smile spread across Darcy’s face. “I know sweetie.”
It had been a long day for Darcy too - the moment Stark and Jane had given her the go-ahead, Darcy had swapped to a 14/7 schedule. On her off weeks, she got to spend time with her girlfriend in Virginia, and honestly? They couldn’t be happier. There was almost a kindred spirit in them - the two odd ones out. Darcy was smart, sure, but she was no super hero or mad scientist, she was just Darcy. And Penelope was no criminal profiler either. From the moment they had met, bonding over the horrible scarf Darcy had started knitting the day before, it was like something clicked into place. Neither of them were upset with their position in their respective social circles, but it was nice to have someone like them, someone who understood.
Darcy continued running her fingers through Penelope’s hair, turning her mind over the ring she had stashed away in her sock drawer. Maybe it was too soon, but gods she loved this woman. There was something so homey in the ebbs and flows of her conversation, something so soothing about having her there, beside her. Both of them were pretty job oriented, with Penelope and Darcy both required to work pretty long hours and with not much of a notice whenever emergencies came up, but they made it work. From head to toe, Penelope was perfect to Darcy, and she knew Penelope felt the same way.
Darcy gently nudged Penelope, shifting her weight to one of her (many) throw pillows and angling to stand up. She met Penelope’s whine of dismay with a gentle reassurance and made her way to their room. But when she opened her sock drawer, the ring wasn’t there. “Looking for something?”
Penelope was standing at the door, hair adorably mussed and a sleepy droop to her eyes. And in her hand was the small, black box that Darcy could have sworn she had hidden perfectly. Darcy just snorted, “and I thought you said working with a bunch of jack-booted mind readers wasn’t rubbing off on you.”
Penelope let her smirk widen, “and I thought you were supposed to wrangle geniuses - are you telling me the sock drawer was the best you could do?” Darcy just rolled her eyes and made her way to the door. “Fork it, gorgeous.”
Penelope handed over the box and if Darcy hadn’t been looking, she never would have noticed the slight tremor in her hands. For all the bravado Penelope was able to put out when she needed to, Darcy was 100% certain that she had been a screeching mess when she had found the ring and she was positive she was never going to hear the end of it from JJ and Emily. Darcy tugged Penelope in close and pressed their foreheads together, one arm entwined with Penelope and the other thumbing open the box.
“Penelope Grace Garcia,” she muttered, not at all dissuaded by the tears already forming in her girlfriend’s eyes, “I didn’t think anyone could understand me as well as you do. You are my rock in an ocean of mystery, my beacon through the dark, and there is no one, in this reality or any other, that I would rather spend the rest of my life with. Would you-”
“Yes!!”
Penelope launched herself into Darcy, pushing them both deeper into the room and tumbling them onto the bed. Darcy just laughed as her fiance covered her face with kisses, repeating her affirmations in the breaths in between. “Breath baby, I’m in it for the long haul.” At this, Penelope tilted her head to get a better look at Darcy’s eyes, tears fully running down her face. “God, Darcy, I love you so much.” At this, Penelope leaned forward and captured Darcy fully in a sweet, syrupy kiss.
When they both finally came up for air, Darcy had her fingers once again running through Penelope’s hair. Penelope began chattering about telling her friends and wedding preparation and do you think the Avengers are going to want to come? What if we cause an international incident?! and Darcy let it all wash over her, getting lost in the cadence of Penelope’s voice.
On paper, they might seem like a weird match, but here they were, and they were happy for it. In a world of Norse gods and crazy science and murder most foul, Darcy chose Penelope, and really, wasn’t it the choice to find love that made all the difference? Later tonight, Penelope would tell the rest of her friends and Darcy would let Stark know she finally got the chutzpah to propose, and later that week they would probably both sit down with Pepper to dig into the binder of wedding plans that Darcy knew Pepper had been not-so-secretly building since she had brought Penelope to the tower for the first time, but right now it was just Darcy and Penelope. Together, against the world.
