[#165] What Do I Do When Lightning Strikes Me? (Legacies)

Theme Prompt: #165—Apology
Title: What Do I Do When Lightning Strikes Me?
Fandom: Legacies
Rating/Warnings: PG-13
Bonus: Yes
Word Count: 741
Summary: Finch comes to reconcile after a fight with Josie.

Lizzie answers the knock on the door, and Finch already knows she’s in trouble.

The towering blond leans over her with her game face on, implying that Josie’s already told her sister what happened and that her sister isn’t pleased. Still, she can handle Lizzie. She knows that, most of the time, Lizzie likes her. She’s just upset on Josie’s behalf, which is fair, because Finch knows she did hurt her.

“Can I talk to Josie?”

Lizzie studies her, before glancing back over her shoulder. What follows is some kind of silent twin conversation, before Lizzie nods, stepping to the side to let Finch in.

Josie is sitting on the bed, wearing her signature Josie pout and Finch wants to kiss it off her face, but she knows an apology is due first. Lizzie, however, doesn’t leave, but moves to stand in front of her sister, arms crossed and waiting.

“Well?”

Finch raises an eyebrow, before turning back to Josie. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said what I did.”

Josie opens her mouth to respond, but Lizzie cuts her off. “But you did, Finch.”

“I know. I know I did, and it was a mistake. I want to do better.”

Again, Lizzie interjects. “We’ve heard that before.”

Finch blinks, and then, directly to Josie: “Is she supposed to be your anger translator or something?” Both twins blink at her like she has two heads, and Finch sighs. Of course these sheltered private school kids don’t get the reference. “Can I talk to Josie alone please?”

Lizzie looks back at Josie, and Josie nods. “Fine,” Lizzie says as she goes to storm off. “But if I come back and she’s crying again? There will be consequences.”

“Understood,” Finch nods as she gives Lizzie a mock salute. She understands what she’s getting when it comes to dating one of the Saltzman twins—they’re a package deal, though slightly less codependent than they used to be. She waits until the door closes behind Lizzie, before pointing to the edge of the bed. “Can I sit?”

Josie nods, turning so that they can sit side by side on the foot of the bed, thighs touching which Finch takes as a good sign.

“I really am sorry about what I said. I wasn’t thinking, and I lashed out.”

“Probably also didn’t help that the full moon is tomorrow,” Josie offers and while she’s not wrong, Finch frowns.

“You don’t have to make excuses for me.” Josie blinks at her, surprised, and Finch shakes her head. “You’re right. It’s not easy with the full moon. But I’m going to need to live with full moons for the rest of my life. It’s no excuse for me to take things out on my girlfriend.”

Josie nods slowly. “Sorry. I’m still working on that.”

“I know. Which is why I’m reminding you.” Finch reaches for her hand and Josie lets her take it, giving it a small squeeze. “And why you need to remind me when my anger issues are getting the better of me.”

Josie nods. “I know. And you weren’t wrong about what you said. I just—sometimes you can’t help but get caught up in Hope’s wake, even when she’s suggesting that you do things that aren’t great for you.”

“Hope’s gift and curse is always seeing right through to the center of the problem.” Finch can acknowledge that about the tiny terror that is the leader of the Super Squad. “But that doesn’t mean her answers are always the right one. And I promised you that I would always bring you back. So if you want to do this for Hope, then I’ll be there to support you. It’s your choice, Jo.”

“But you don’t think I should?”

“Not really, no. I think there’s a better way.”

Josie nods once, before squeezing Finch’s hand softly. “Want to come help me find it?”

“IF that means a sexy research date where I just watch while you tear through books like Evie O’Connell, then yes, I’m very down.”

“Who’s Evie O’Connell?”

Finch nods because this cannot stand. “Yeah, when this current crisis is over, we’re watching The Mummy.”

“It’s a date.” Josie grins before leaning in to kiss her softly. “Thank you, for looking out for me.”

“Always,” Finch nods, before they both get up and head to the library. They have a long night of research ahead, but hopefully things will look better in the morning.

Overprotective sisters can get in the way sometimes. Good that Finch and Josie could sort things out on their own.

I like sibling relationships like that were they are there for each other.
