If You Want to Live
Blair Sandburg was in a terrible mood. He had his dream job in Major Crimes, but yet, here he was, sitting at his desk all alone doing his partner’s work. Jim Ellison was out to lunch with his ex-wife, Carolyn Plummer. Not that that alone warranted Blair worrying, but Blair had just begun sleeping with said partner, Jim Ellison. To say Blair was jealous was an understatement. Jim had been gone from Major Crimes for 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Captain Simon Banks walked out of his office and said, “Sandburg, where is your partner? Why are you doing all the work alone?”
“Sir, he’s out to lunch,” Blair answered as quick as he could.
“That was an hour and a half ago. Who did he go to lunch with?” Simon asked, not sounding very happy at all.
“Simon, I was told he wanted to have lunch with his ex-wife. I don’t know any more than that.”
“In that case, I guess it’s all right. I saw her this morning and she said they were going to try working their marriage out again. Good for them. Tell him to come in my office when he gets back.”
Blair was torn between being pissed off and hurt. Everyone knew about Jim and Blair being lovers. But yet Simon looked like he was happy for Jim and Carolyn.
Megan Connor, walked over to Blair’s desk and said, “Why aren’t you at lunch with Jimbo? Where is he, anyhow?”
“He went to lunch with his ex-wife. Simon just told me they may be working things out and getting back together.”
“That’s nonsense. Fight for him, Sandy. In fact, go to Brads and get him.”
Blair smiled and said, “I am hungry. I could go and save him if he needed to be saved, right?”
Megan smiled back and said, “I’ll tell Simon you left. Go get your mate.”
Blair left immediately, taking a cab and went to Brad’s Grill for lunch. When he walked in, Jim was sitting watching the front door and smiled when Blair walked in. Blair took this as a good sign. He whispered, Sentinel soft, “Come with me if you want to live.”
Jim burst out laughing and said, “Carolyn, I have to go. I’m not interested in starting over again with you. I’m sorry, but I have a new love interest and need to go back to work.”
Carolyn was livid. “Jimmy, this is your last chance.”
“I’ll take my chances with Blair. Bye, Carolyn.”
Jim got out of the booth and walked up to Blair. “I needed to be saved, thank you. Did you take a cab here?”
“I did. We’re driving back to Major Crime together. I was worried, Jim.”
“I knew you would be, but I also knew you’d come and save my ass, like you usually do.”
Blair laughed and so did Jim. Jim paid for Carolyn’s lunch and bought Blair a sandwich and off they went to Jim’s truck.
Jim smiled over at his partner and said, “Thank you again for saving me. She was going to start crying again. She really thought we could work things out. She was very convincing. I almost believed her.”
“I know how crazy I am about you, so I can’t blame her for wanting to try it again. But she can’t have you.”
“I wish we were off. I could use a good fucking.”
Blair pulled his cell phone out and said, “I’ll see what I can do to help.”
Blair dialed Simon’s number and heard, “Banks.”
“Simon, this is Blair. Jim is having a terrible time with headaches. His senses are acting up like crazy. I’m going to take him home to rest and try and get his dials in line again. Could I have a couple of hours off?”
“Take the rest of the day, Sandburg. We’ll see you both tomorrow.”
“Thank you, Simon.”
Jim laughed when Blair hung up because after all, being a Sentinel let you listen to everyone’s conversations on the phone. “You’re good, Chief, you’re really good.” And Jim sped up to get home for the fucking of his life.
