Summary: Optimus and Cade are stargazing and talking about different planets

“I’ve gazed at the stars from many planets. From some you could barely see them, they were faint light dots in the vastness of space. Contrary to that, from others you were so close to them, you got the impression you could grab them, if you would reach out your servo.”

Fascinated Cade listed to Optimus, as he leaned against his foot as he gazed up to the night sky. It was another warm summer night in which Cade hadn’t been able to find any sleep due to the warmth. In times like these Optimus’ different biorhythm was a blessing. He wasn’t the one waking up his lover, telling him that he was unable to sleep and that he wanted some distraction, usually walks through the surrounding area or they drove out to their nearby favorite spots. Or Optimus was watching Cade working on any of his inventions.

Yet, the heat affected them both and the cooler nights were a blessing for both of them.

“Is there any planet which had provided you with your favorite view at the stars?” Cade asked, while he tried to image what it would be to take a closer look at the stars.

Optimus thought about Cade’s question for some astro-minutes longer than he wanted, since Cade got the impression that Optimus hadn’t heard his question.
“Optimus?” Cade turned around and looked up to Optimus’ face whose expression gave away that he was lost in his thoughts.

Cade had asked him a simple question but the answer to it was much more complicated at second glance. Sure, he could have said ‘Earth’ or ‘Cybertron’ as obvious answer but compared to other plants, whose names were hard to translate into one which could be expression with any language spoken on Earth they were boring and unspectacular. Should he try to explain at least one of these impressive views? He wouldn’t be able to paint an accurate picture of what he had seen with the words he had stored in his memory bank.
Traveling to most of these planets wasn’t an option since they atmosphere wasn’t made for humans and at the moment it was far too dangerous to work on a spaceship with all the necessary modifications to make it a safe journey for the two of them.

“You know … Each of the views was the most wonderful on its own. Here on Earth there are spots where you have a splendid view, where you get the impression that they are just above you, within arms-reach. From the top of the mountains or in the Arctic region for example there are different emotions I felt when I watched at them. But for me they are also a reminder that I’m far away from my home-planet.
There was a planet which had a very thick atmosphere and even the light of the brightest star was just as faint shimmer. You could compare it to the lights of city when there is fog hanging over it. It was a depressing planet which had not much to offer. It was sparsely inhabited by a life-form which appeared to be made of numerous stones. Even they were living on such a bland planet they were of a cheerful nature. One of them had told me , that as long as the stars would find a way to shed their light through the atmosphere of their planet, there was nothing they had to fear.”

Silence felt between them. The anecdote Optimus had told him had put Cade into a pensive mood.
After what felt to him like an eternity he remarked. “Stars are a symbol of hope. Seems that this in a universal believe.”

“One more proof that no matter from which planet we come, we are have more in common that one might think. I’m sure you’d have the time of your life if you could come with me and explore the beauty of space.”

Optimus winked at Cade, who in return flashed a smile at him. “Let me sit on your shoulder my love, so I can see the stars a bit better tonight”.

“And? Did anything changed?” asked Optimus amused after Cade was sitting on his favorite spot.
“Turn your audio fin to me, then you’ll get the answer.”
Even this was request seemed a bit displaced Optimus did what Cade had asked him to do.

“Promise me, that one day you’ll show me the view at the stars from the best stargazing spot on Cybertron.”

Optimus knew that since he had told Cade that it was possible for humans to stay on Cybertron he had often expressed his desire to go there. He was of a curious nature and would surely have an easy time making new acquaintances there and enjoying his stay to the fullest. What prevented them from going was the question if it was save for the leader of the Autobots to leave Earth for a short time, probably only a few days?

“I promise. As soon as it is safe to go, we’ll go.” While he agreed to Cade’s wish part of Optimus was uncertain if this day would ever come. He knew that he had capable soldiers on Earth but was that enough? But he knew that he and Cade did not had all the time in the world, even in moments like these he got the impression that this was the case.
