[#176] Gravity is Pulling Me to Your Heavenly Body (Leverage: Redemption)
Theme Prompt: #176 - Space
Title: Gravity is Pulling Me to Your Heavenly Body
Fandom: Leverage: Redemption
Rating/Warnings: PG-13 | SPOILERS for Season 2
Bonus: Yes.
Word Count: 713
Summary: Parker and Hardison try to stay connected while he’s away.
Hardison is always so specific about the coordinates.
She understands why. What they’re trying to do isn’t your average FaceTime. Mostly because Hardison’s in space and Parker is not. So not only does the satellite have to be positioned in the right direction, those frequencies have to hit her comm frequencies at just the right angle. She knows he spends his days doing the math, finding the perfect place where all the pieces lined up perfectly. She would point out that this would have been easier if she had just gone to space with him in the first place, but they both know that will not be on the table.
It’s probably for the best Parker’s not in space with him, if she’s honest. As much as she loves tight enclosed spaces and as much as she loves Hardison, she knows he needs a reason to come back down to Earth again. They don’t need to become a space station onto themselves.
And eventually, they both would get bored.
“—I know you can hear me, Parker. Pretending you can’t isn’t funny.”
Hardison’s voice slides into place as she gets into position and she smirks.
“Sorry. I was running a little behind.” She gets comfy on the rooftop, staring up at the stars above her. “Breanna wanted to show me one of her new toys.”
“Oh, I see. You love her toys more than me.” He pauses. “Was it cool?”
“So cool. I do not know what it does, but it was definitely cool. And sparkly.”
“I’ll have to email her about it later.” She can feel him getting comfortable, looking out his own window into the sparkling expanse around him. “Everything else going okay? Sophie?”
“Sophie’s good. You know how well each of us deal when our pasts gets dragged back to haunt us, but she’ll figure it out. Eliot’s working on her.”
“Which could be one of two approaches. Either he yells at her until she caves or he helps her get into something messy.” Hardison has his right to be concerned, it’s true. But Parker trusts Eliot to get through to Sophie, and she knows Harry will help.
“They definitely did a little of the latter recently, but that was mostly to get information.” Parker nods firmly. “We’ve totally got it under control.”
“That doesn’t sound like anything is under control, but I’ll take your word for it.” There’s a moment of silence as she enjoys the sound of his breathing on the other end of the line until he finally says: “I miss you.”
“I miss you too. How’s the project going?”
“It’s getting there. Still needs a little more time, but as soon as I’m done, you’ll know.”
“Good. Because you owe me several date nights when you get back. And since you aren’t here, I get to do all the planning.”
There’s a long pause as Hardison considers the weight of that sentence. “Parker. P-Parker. Please keep the jumping off buildings to a minimum. I’m only going to be just reacquainting myself with gravity. I do not want to get that up close and personal.”
Parker laughs, but she nods. “Fine. We’ll ease you back into it.”
“Thank you.”
“But, while I have you—do you think you might help us out with a job?”
“Parker—I’m in space. How much am I helping here?”
“See, that’s the thing. We need an eccentric billionaire, and what’s more eccentric than space?”
There’s a pause as he considers. “This was Sophie’s idea?”
“It was a group effort.”
“It was Sophie’s idea.”
“Yeah, it was Sophie’s idea. But it’s not a terrible one. Unlike some of her other ideas. I still do not understand her obsession with shoes.”
He laughs. “Alright. Send me the info and let me know when I need to call in. I’ll be there.”
“Okay.” Parker knows their time is coming to a close, so she saves him the trouble of having to say goodbye. He always sounds sad when he does, and she doesn’t want him to be sad tonight. “Gotta go. Breanna was going to make some tweaks that she wanted me to test. But I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”
“Same Bat time, same Bat channel. See you soon, Parker.”
“See you soon, Hardison.”
