Summary: Jim Ellison and Blair Sandburg investigate a suicide that isn’t a suicide.

Jim got a call for a dead body. It was a suicide and he and Blair would have to check it out.

The commissioner’s nephew committed suicide. He hated suicides and so did Blair Sandburg, his partner.

“Chief, do you want to go on a Suicide run with me?” Jim asked.

Blair smiled and said, “Someone has to do it, Jim. Let’s get going.”

The two men left the bullpen and went to the scene, where the medical examiner, Dan Wolf was there with the body. It was a small office space.

Jim walked up and said, “Hello, Dan. Suicide?”

“Not sure, Jim. You’ll have to wait and see what results I get from this. It looks pretty cut and dried. It’s an overdose, but I haven’t done the tests yet. I’ll send results to you as soon as I’m done with the autopsy. Good luck, Jim.”

Jim and Blair worked the case and thought it looked like an overdose to them, but they had to wait for the results.

Blair had taken many notes and pictures of things at the crime scene. Jim had also. That way if it did turn messy, they would be prepared.

The two men went back to the station to wait on the autopsy.

“Jim, should we go down and see if Dan’s done yet?”

“He wouldn’t be done yet and he’ll call when he has results.”

“Poor guy was really young. It’s so sad.”

“Something didn’t look right to me. I have to think about it for a while.”

“I bet it’s a murder.” Blair said.

“I’m typing up notes to go with the scene, why don’t you do the same. What was his name again?” Jim asked.

“Bradley Spenser. He was only 19.”

“Thanks, Chief.”

Two hours later, Jim’s phone rang. “Ellison…”

“Jim, it wasn’t a suicide. It’s murder. He was dead before the pills were forced down his throat. They weren’t even dissolved. The killer was probably interrupted.”

“Thanks, Dan. Could you send the results as soon as possible.”

“I’ll do it now, Jim. Good luck.”

“Chief, it’s a murder. He was dead before someone forced all those pills down his throat.”

“Let’s find out more about his family. I know the Commissioner was his uncle, but who else is his family?”

Jim and Blair left to start the investigation. They went to Bradley’s home first. When they arrived, they used the key from the key chain at the scene of the crime. Jim unlocked the door and they walked in carefully and quietly and there was a young man going through the drawers in the bedroom.

Jim walked in and said, “What do you think you’re doing?”

The young man just jumped. He turned and looked at Jim, with tears running down his face and he said, “Bradley was my lover. I wanted to get the letters we had saved from each other before his family found them.”

Blair asked, “Why?”

“They didn’t approve of us being together. In fact, they were always upsetting Bradley about his life choices. He was threatened daily. I wanted them because they meant the world to us.”

Jim asked, “Do you think he committed suicide?”

The young man said, “Never. He was full of life and we were so happy. He wouldn’t have taken his own life.”

“What is your name?” Jim asked.

“Tim Chandler. Here is one of my cards. Could you let me know if you find any letters?”

“We’ll look for you. Now, this might be a crime scene, so let’s get you out of here and we’ll start working the scene. I’m sorry for your loss.”

Jim and Blair put booties and gloves on. The fingerprint team came in next. They got a lot of prints.

Jim found a safe in Bradley’s bedroom and Jim used his Sentinel hearing for opening up the safe. In the safe, he found letters and pictures of Bradley Spenser and Tim Chandler. Some were nude photos.

“We’ll read the letters and see if they tell us anything,” Blair said.

The commissioner and his brother came into the scene and neither were wearing booties or gloves.

“Sir, we need you in booties and gloves if you’re going to be in here.”

“It was a suicide. Let him go and be at peace.” The commissioner sounded almost hateful.

“I’ll take those letters. Those are private,” the commissioner’s brother said.

“I’m sorry, they might be evidence.”

“Just give them to me. He was my son. They are mine now…”

“Sir, please leave the scene. This is a closed area. We need you both out.”

“Well, I never,” the victim’s father said.

They finally left with more pushing from Jim. Blair said, “I didn’t like the father. He might be the guy.”

“He could be. We’ll see what else we find.”

They worked the scene and left to go back to the station.

“Jim, I have a really deep gut feeling about the father.”

“So do I. We’ll see what Simon thinks and go from there.”

Jim and Blair read the letters and they were nothing but words of love between two men who loved each other. They both knew he never would have taken his own life.

Three weeks later, they arrested Bradley’s father for murder. They had found all the clues they needed and he folded like a cheap card table.

Jim boxed up the letters and pictures and called Tim Chandler. He was going to pick them up at the station.

The father had killed his son because he was gay. It was his only child. Jim and Blair couldn’t understand this at all. But it didn’t matter. At least Bradley could rest in peace.

I agree. There's so much hate in the world, and most of it is being dirtected at people who don't deserve it and are just trying to live their lives =(
