Fandom: The Vampire Diaries
Rating/Warnings: PG-13
Bonus: Yes

Summary: Stefan works on his newest victim.

Stefan’s been working on this one for a while.

Occasionally, he gets bored with putting easy names on his wall. He wants a challenge. And he’s been fixated on this one for quite a while. He first meets her coming out of a party well after dawn and she going to church. Trite, but when she doesn’t immediately fall for his charm, it suitably intrigues him. A smart girl. He thinks he can still get to her.

Her name is Irene Wilkins, and she’s lived in Chicago all her life. A teetotaler and a church girl who’s just looking for a good husband and a long, happy life. Stefan intends to give her none of those things, but he’s not after what she thinks he’s after. She’s fairly certain he just wants to take advantage of her and leave her ruined, but no.

Stefan just wants her blood. Hard to tell if that’s better or worse, but certainly less emotionally devastating.

He thinks she’s warming up to him. She greets him with a small smile that is bigger than the day before, so progress is being made. “Good morning, Irene.”

“Good morning, Stefan. Think you’ll go inside with me today?”

Stefan has never been particularly God-fearing. It’s a side effect of being a vampire, most likely. But he lets her think she’s persuading him, getting him a little closer to her being able to slip away with him into the dark.

“Perhaps. Stranger things have happened.”

She laughs, before taking his arm gently as they head on their way. The path to church is simple, predictable, but just as they’re getting close, the street is closed. Some kind of water main seems to have broken and they’re going to have to go the long way around.

“Oh, dear,” Irene sighs. “I wouldn’t want to take up so much of your time.”

“As your escort, it’s my job to ensure you get there safely. I don’t mind.” He then turns to his right and sees a dark corridor between buildings that will be just perfect for his purposes. He nods his head toward the shadowy space. “If we cut through there, we probably only have to go up a block to get where we need to go.”

Irene glances over and hesitates, her hand tightening on his arm. “Do you think it’s safe?”

No, it’s not. Not in the slightest. But Stefan is playing the dashing gentleman this afternoon and the hero of the story is reassuring by design. “Of course. It’s not that long a walk, I promise.”

Irene squares her shoulders and nods. “Alright. Let’s go this way.”

Stefan takes her to a safe distance, then corners her against the brick wall. Stefan’s never been good at games or restraint. It’s honestly a miracle that Irene’s survived this long. She struggles, trying to push back against him, but he’s much, much stronger than he is, and honestly, he’s always liked a bit of struggle.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Her fists beat against his chest and he smiles, bearing his fangs.

“Just want a little taste.”

“What—”

He twists and sinks his fangs down into her neck. Hot, sweet blood coats his tongue, and he drowns in the sensation. She tastes just as sweet as he imagined, and while initially it was just going to be a taste, he finds he can’t stop himself and he keeps drinking. She continues to struggle and his grip tightens to hold her in place, and he keeps drinking.

Eventually she goes slack. Her heartbeat slows, then stops. Stefan drops her indelicately down onto the ground, before pulling out his handkerchief to wipe at his lips. Anticlimactic, but at least he finally got what he wanted.

Once he’s cleaned up, he steps out the opposite side of the alley, whistling a jaunty tune and heading back towards his apartment. Time to add another name to his wall.

Very nicely written.
